Flight ops seems to relish in overworking our pilots and running as thin an operation as possible. December was a great example. Bulletins came out saying we were staffed the best we'd ever been for the holidays. However, if you look at the ENTIRE B737 IAH base pool for DEC, you'll see that if you add ALL the available pilots, you wouldn't even have enough pilots for TWO DAYS of minimum reserve coverage. Junior manning almost every day? Why would we need that if we're so well staffed? And then we get another memo saying they're offering VRF (Voluntary Reduced Flying lines) again for Feb. As it is, you can't trade trips, you can't drop trips, and most get hosed by PBS regardless of what position they fly. Interesting how management wants such a contentious relationship. At least they're getting their wish!
EWR Based,

I can HONESTLY relate to what you are saying.

Yet I am still hopeful the MOAB can happen.

It will be the one following the JCBA section 1 victory, and will need to include the following CAL vacancies to qualify as The MOAB...

EWR CRJ700/500 CA
EWR CRJ700/500 FO
IAH CRJ700/500 CA
IAH CRJ700/500 FO
CLE CRJ700/500 CA
CLE CRJ700/500 FO
LAX CRJ700/500 CA
LAX CRJ700/500 FO

The new bid rumor is coming from more than the usual unreliable sources. Quite a bit of people in the know are leaking it.

The CLE 737 pilots have been getting hammered with the Hawaii 5 day trips, the amount of deadhead to cover those trips is ridiculous, CLE pilot time away from base is outrageous and sick calls are waay up.
Seems like the bid will be out this week or next.
I have also heard from credible sources that there should be vacancies on the next bid given the additional flying that has been scheduled for the summer.

How senior a base do you CO pilots expect LAX to be?

Prolly very senior and very junior.... Guys that live there or if their commute would be easier would probably bid it, but it might go junior for the bottom FO side. I think there are quite a few commuters from LA, but some are widebody CA which might not want to come off of that equipment ( and it's schedules) to the fluff. Just my opinion...\

Listened to the Town Hall Call today and the bid was discussed, starting with the fiasco of the one that was canceled.

Without getting specific, it was mentioned that the NEW "we really mean it this time" bid will be out sooner rather than later and that canceling the previous bid in favor of this one will be more "beneficial" to the pilots.

I don't recall all that was said regarding this issue, but Jay indicated that the QOL of CLE pilots, especially since last summer, has taken a hit because of these Hawaii flights. He's made his position clear to the company that CLE pilots should not bare the burden of the Hawaii operation for another summer. Another caller brought up the NE snowstorm debacle over the holidays and the fact that another storm is already raising flags for later in this week. I think there was some tie in about that, staffing and the bid as well.

I don't have credible sources on this topic other than what I heard on the call, but I cannot see how there won't be some vacancies on this bid given recent events and projected flying increases.

I kinda think the same. If it is a 756 base, WWWWAAAAYYYYY senior. But a 737 base might go Jr. If it comes to fruition I am curious to see how the flying out of a LAX base is distributed. Mostly one day turns with IRO's? 4 day trips LAX-HNL-SNA-HNL-LAX? SNA/LAX Co-terminal? I'd bid it as a lineholder since I live West Coast and it should be an easier commute for me. But since I am a commuter I want to commute to a line.

Senior enough for me to hold it so we'd better kiss and make up if we expect to fly together someday.
