New CAL System Bid
#34
They keep changing their reasoning every few months. After the retro check, they'll hang around to see what other goodies they can get, so their will be another excuse. It's ALL about the MONEY.........nothing else. One of our pilots, who's single, no kids, NOTHING, and brags about having over $10,000,000 in the bank, is sticking around to see how much more he can get. The state is going to love him when he finally kicks the bucket. (BTW, he has NO LIFE and credits over 110 hours a month with DH). Unfortunately, a few guys are already pushing to increase the age 65 cutoff claiming 65 is "age discrimination" again. I won't hold my breath. 2012 can't come quick enough......................

FWIW...I heard there will be a bigger system bid in Jan to add over 400+ United furloughees to the roster. This came from the same conversation that there would be a small system bid in December. Keep in mind the ACP said there would be LAX on one of these bids as well.
Did my MV/LOE last week and one of the training center guys said they are gearing up for more training in March.
Just passing it along as a Christmas wish for those out there.

Thanks for passing on the information, it would be great news for a lot of folks. Having said that, since nearly all of the furloughs were generated by parking the entire guppy fleet, I have to wonder where the increased flying and planes are coming from. Not to mention, it has frequently mentioned (including by the MEC folks) that the UAL side had enough pilots for the forseeable future. I know that the furlough coordinators said that after the merger was official, there would be new people creating UAL's schedule and if the summer flying schedule was increased (on mainline that is) by the new powers that be then recalls might happen. Guess we'll know more in four to six weeks.

I was told by the ORD Chief Pilot to expect a call sometime early "spring" so the other rumors fall into place.
Last time I was recalled it was a complete surprise--one moment no recalls, the next I was in class. Somethings never change?

take it for what its worth, on thursday when i went to do my fingerprinting and drug test, one of the chiefs in IAH sounded fairly upbeat. He said there would be a bid with the need for hiring. The issue as it stand now is that he says UAL will be recalling pilots this spring also and that they haven't decided how to deal with the possibility of UAL pilots coming to CAL and then getting recalled to UAL soon afterwards and then leaving for UAL. He also mentioned that he was told that they were only expecting at most 700 UAL furloughs to return and if that was the case between CAL hiring and UAL recalling everyone would at least hear about coming back by this time next year. One of the reasons why was that the aircraft efficiency was lower at UAL then at CAL. It had to do with the route pairings. By changing the UAL side they would get what equals to one hour of flight time per airplane per day. Also he felt the whole contract seniority list thing would get work out in this time frame and again more efficiencies allowing for more block time and pilots. It mainly had to do with the route pairings that would become available. I even heard him say hiring off the street at one point. Again don't yell at me that was just the discussion we had.
Thank you for taking the time to pass along what you heard in IAH. While I fully understand your disclaimer regarding the source, it is still encouraging to hear.
Take care,
SP
