If you consider "WE", the 'Out-Sourced' (a'la SkyWest) flying that occupies one of those 3 complete terminal's you refer too.....then I guess your sum of 3 is correct. I know several other's would differ in your 'math'. Terminal 6 & 7 yes....but sure as heck not 8....just a 'few' RJ's there, look into it.
Got SCOPE??
You obtain a bit of redemption....you would be correct as to LAX having the 'potential' to be a Monster out West. For those that may not realize/remember, CAL still has multiple pieces of Real-Estate at LAX left from the "Six Days".....So yes, the potential is there with resources in place.
As far as the previous 'up-down' the West Coast routes like years past, stating the obvious, the demographic/saturation of our industry have change completly. JB, VA, SWA to name a few have dilluted the 'straight' West Coast Market.....but a feed/route structure used wisely in a racheted-up the LAX Hub for Asia/S Pacific/South America.....we could improved our batting average very quickly and go head-head with DAL.
.....Jeffery, hear that??? The "potential" is there.

I kinda beg to differ. It really doesn't matter WHO is flying off ot the terminal 8 gates at present the gates BELONG to UAL and there WAS a time when we flew off of those gates and WE COULD be flying off of them yet again. I think the ENTIRE build up at LAX will be to make that hub internationally as big as SFO where all the domestic flights feed international flights and connect with code share partners into the interior of the USA. Isn't that WHY we're Having a Merger in the first place??
Or did you guys think there was some OTHER reason?? When we opened the Pacific hub at SFO back in 1986 a VP told me that Flt 805 from SFO-HKG made more money than ALL the domestic flights in and out of SFO in the ENTIRETY of the day. So, just like UAL is tasked wth feeding SFO, ORD, and IAD internationally it seems logical that CAL will be tasked with feeding EWR, IAH, LAX, and along with UAL feeding HNL to Micronesia, SYD ,AKL,MNL, and NRT.because I'm SURE they have no intention of letting Hawaiian have the ONLY USA service to Tokyo and ICN (Seoul) out of HNL.. While CAL has 767-400's?? Cuz for darn sure they wouldn't if I were the boss..

From the smattering of comments I've read from Smisek it seems that LAX (or domestic in general..for that matter) growth will only be to the extent that they can feed the international flights. It seems they are not interested in the day to day battle of O&D traffic with SW/VA, et al.
As I mentioned in my previous post regarding DAL....look what ALA is doing for DAL in the Asian market feed. "Works very well, runs a long time". DAL gets 'all' the beny's (having ALA's feed) of a Merger in those regards w/o having to do what CAL/UAL have 'done' via a Merger to get it. Now that UniCal's Merger is well on it's way, Jeffery better beat feet and USE IT to compete in the profitable Asia structure.

Let me clue you in....From a pilots point of view, ALL those CRJ's NOW at Terminal 8 represent lost UAL MAINLINE jobs, over 1400 of them. This entire formula maybe 'out of sight-out of mind' as your sit in your MX Controller's Office. Believe me, if it can happen to your pilots, you too can have your job outsourced to the 'lowest' bidder even on your side of the lawn.
The problem with this is here and now....open your eyes and quit 'accepting it'.

Who knows what management is thinking. CAL seems to always cede market share wherever it can. Just look at some of the outstations. 2 or 3 express flights a day but DL will be running 5-6 mainline flights a day?? Way to protect and go after those business customers.
CLE is most likely on the chopping block in the next two-three years. From what I have heard, Smisek wasn't so gung-ho on the DEN operation when he was speaking to employees there either. From what I understand, DEN-LHR is being suspended soon and maybe shifted to IAD. That doesn't sound like a move showing confidence in DEN.
