A few weeks ago many of the UAL pilots were on here saying how disgraceful Jayson's chest thumping was in the "Magenta Line". Here's his equal at UAL who now finds it okay to go after Jay Pierce, and yet I don't hear anyone saying how disgraceful this guys crap is. Oh, that's right, no one at UAL would EVER say anything as mean as our reps at CAL.

Dear CAL-ALPA and UAL-ALPA,
The next time you decide to make a public diatribe featuring your personal rants or the shortcomings of the "other" MEC, I strongly suggest that you stop. Just like in kindergarten, it really doesn't matter who said something first, and it really doesn't matter if someone hurt your feelings.
Sincerely,
Riddler
P.S. Your typical "agree with me or else you're an *******" is not a viable team building or negotiating tactic, whether it's dealing with management or dealing with the other MEC.

I think they can still tell us what is going on without all the personal attacks. I understand that the stakes are high, thus emotions will be too. Please keep us informed as much as possible, just keep it professional. JMHO.

Union politics is a contact sport. If my rep doesn't pitch a fit or come to blows, he's not doing his job. Too many of you guys are wrapped in the 'officer and gentleman' thing. We are labor - worker bees - and we should be wearing greasy flight suits to work. Pretending you're a country club republican and hobnobbing with management has been the downfall of our profession. They'll smile and shake your hand, but to them we're just lowlife labor. Lets not forget our roots!

(not that I would have been so undiplomatic as to beat my chest in mixed company…)
Here's the key to the "issue" that Oly misses.
You are one company NOW! There is no mixed company (I've looked everywhere for a CAL or UAUA ticker, can't find it). As soon as both parties get that through their skulls and take action on it, their membership will be better for it. Our piloting profession will be better for it.
This ridiculous tribalism and fighting over scraps has got to stop. Step up and go make more for everybody to share!

You'd be right if we were really one company, alas we are not. We are two airlines under one holding company, thus the food fight. I'm just hoping no one says or does anything that can't be repaired once we are flying as one company. Based on the performances to this point, I'm not hopeful.

I fully expect a blowout during the negotiations, but I expect it to be contained and internal. The airing of the grievances shouldn't be public knowledge. I'm confident that when it is all over and the dust settles, we will all stand shoulder to shoulder. Assumptions are that we have an industry leading contract.
