Default From the UA MEC update 10/29

The week ended with us leaving Chicago carrying proposals and briefings from management on all sections of the contract. It will take some time for the JNC and its SMEs to fully vet and analyze this amount of information. It is safe to say that as with any initial offer, we won’t be signing on the dotted line, and a significant amount of work needs to be done. The JNC is studying the proposals through the weekend with due diligence and will reconvene on Monday to begin work on counterproposals. This may take some time, but we believe thoroughness is what you expect and deserve from your JNC.
Reading between the lines, the company position is still the lowball offer they suggested during section 6 openers in April of 2009. Reading further between the lines, no way in hell an agreement will be reached by Dec. 17th.

On the "between the lines category";

It could be that the company is trying to take advantage of the very lengthy SLI rift over pay scale banding. Maybe the company would rather deal with a DNC than wait for the JNC. It makes the divide and conquer routine one step shorter, and MUCH more fun for them.

How could they resist the chance to make some friends at the table.

I think the compensation issue was settled for the JCBA, was it not? It has been submitted according to my ALPA updates.

Who's ignorant? UAL just got huge alright. About 20% smaller than in 2001!! Thats right. UAL is smaller now - with CAL - Than 9 years ago. AMR F/As and NWA Pilots both were allowed to strike in the 1990s. AMR was bigger then, than now. So it has EVERYTHING to do with the Pres., and the NMB members that he appoints. Saying that a strike is off the table is just not true. Certainly not "ignorant".

Jeff Sleazick will wait to the bitter end to give us anywhere near what we are asking for. We all must be willing and able$ to STRIKE. If you are not willing or able$ to STRIKE them you are fooling yourself.

Well, THANKS for posting that. The limp johnson crowd makes me want to hurl. We will only get what we are willing to fight for, no more. There is no benevolence on Whacker Drive!

If we pansyfy and cry to our Mommies we'll get spanked...again. Mgmt has unlimited funds and far more of a long term view than labor. They plan on us capitulating and greasing our worn out poop shoots so they can have their way with us again. And, to reline their already full pockets. Did you read what they offered IAM?? YGBSM!

I like to think that a large enough percentage of the UAL types are still so raw from the reaming we received to "save" the airline, that in the end we will prevail. Of course I could also be smoking Ganja.

Size of course is relative.

There is no way the president ( dem or repub) allows an airline of "current" united's size to strike.
Zero, zilch, none, nada--- why hasnt AA been released? How long has it been? How long has it been for even pinnacle- last time a airline of decent size went on strike- sorry spirit dont count

Yes, United was big in 2001, but not this big. United did NOT have near this many planes, pilots, FAs or other employee groups. Sorry, the numbers just don't bear that out. I believe the number of pilots only reached as high as 11,000 and the number of planes about 650, or so, back in 2000/01. United now has over 12,500 pilots and about 700 mainline airframes.

Skippy is EXACTLY right. United Pilots will NEVER be allowed to strike for two reasons. First, it is almost inconceiveable that the United MEC would be released from mediation by NMB to begin a cooling off period after having broken the law so blatantly by their actions in 2007/08 and their subsequent preliminary injunction handed down by Judge Lefkow (and STONGLY upheld by the appelate court judge). Yes, that injunction is STILL in full force and effect indefinitely.

Second, the PEB that would be convened (regardless of which party was occupying the Oval Office) would instruct the parties to "return to the table" until an agreement had been reached. No sitting president would, in his/her right mind, allow an airline the size of the new United to stop flying, especially in light of the volatile nature and fragility of today's economy.

It's just not going to happen, IMHO.
