“Continental XXX in United livery…”

I don't see why this is necessary. It was (correct me if I'm wrong) only done during the NW/DL merger, not previously. There are regionals out there today flying with planes, all under the same callsign, in a dozen different liveries.
Personally, I think this was more of a "beat into everyone's head that NW is now DL" idea rather than actual operational necessity.

We all want a new contract. I am curious as to why you feel the urge to throw up? Is it because you feel like we are headed down the path of USAirways in the sense that they are merging the airlines prior to having contracts in place, or is something else troubling you?

Just imagine when UA starts getting the new scheme...
"Ground, United XXX in Continental paint with a United sticker on the side"
or
"Ground, United XXX in new United Livery, which looks like Continental but says United"
I can't wait to see the CF approaching or leaving the C7 & C8 alleys in LAX

Ha! It might be a good thing!! I dont know how many conversations we have had while we are sitting in that alley waiting to push and United ramp has us holding for some mystery push on the other side. We always said, "We are just the wrong color". All in fun.........

Maybe a little pride. Just like if you showed up to work and you got a memo from above to use the call sign "Continental". There would probably be some comments back and forth in the cockpit. Not the end of the world. But with all things being equal, and all the BS that comes with the industry, we had pride in our airline. Clean new planes, good advancment- all things considered, and good scope. Sure there was a lot of concessionary bs, but things were moving the right direction. This is no knock at the 'new' future. But his comment probably has a little to do with that. You become part of a family, dysfunctional certainly, but that doesnt mean you want it to change overnight......
Among the comments I've heard about United, it sounds like people are trying to make themselves feel better by knocking us down a level or two.
We are all apprehensive, but I think an open dialogue, will go a long way to show that we have more similarities than differences.

Fritz, maybe it was me who misread your quote of "We all want a new contract. I am curious as to why you feel the urge to throw up? Is it because you feel like we are headed down the path of USAirways in the sense that they are merging the airlines prior to having contracts in place, or is something else troubling you?"
It sounded a little odd to me. We all have specific sensitivities. Your statement rang in my mind as "Why would anyone have a problem using the United callsign?"
My post to you was why some CAL pilots wouldn't be overjoyed about it as most (Id say all, but then I would get flamed), were happy with the independent direction of our company.
So if your post wasn't meant in that tone, then I apologize. But that is how I took it and thus the response I gave. So I was a little surprised with your last post about shelving the us vs them post.
There is a $hitload of us vs them arguments going on and they are all behind closed doors during SLI negotiation. You better believe the TWO groups are going at it a million times greater than we are on this little forum. It does seem that on this forum if anyone speaks well of their own airline, then the OAL pilots take it as a slam against them. Reread my post. Nothing diminished UAL in it.

If i'm reading you correctly, I think it's time for the "Us v. Them" attitude to be shelved. There are a lot of perceptions about each group floating around. First, I feel a lot of these possess the ability to damage our cause for a fair JCBA. Secondly, most if not all perceptions are probably incorrect.
Among the comments I've heard about United, it sounds like people are trying to make themselves feel better by knocking us down a level or two.

What is important? Whether "I" can view all the United memorabilia in the halls of TK, keep the tulip on the tail, keep United's paint scheme ( i prefer the blue, orange, and red stripe of 10 years ago), or can "WE" get the contract we deserve.
I'm sorry that the prevailing feeling at CAL is that we are destroying what is near and dear to you. There are quite a few opinions on our side as well. Going forward, we need to realize what is important and focus our energy on that. If it means using the call sign "continental" while wearing black and gold, sign me up! If it means carrying a picket sign along side of you, sign me up. It is however, a lot harder to carry a picket sign with someone when they are slinging mud at the other group. It's up to "us", crawl into a shell, or interact, discuss, and learn with an open mind.
Regarding the SLI, there is no use discussing, or posturing about it on this forum. It's going to arbitration and there's nothing we can do about it except live with it.

You got it wrong. It was not so much directed towards you but to all of us.
