I'm afraid when the dust settles, the only thing left of United will be the name.

Btw, love the avatar, I always get a chuckle when I see it in London.

We all want a new contract. I am curious as to why you feel the urge to throw up? Is it because you feel like we are headed down the path of USAirways in the sense that they are merging the airlines prior to having contracts in place, or is something else troubling you?

Why paint it if your plan is to sell the assets and outsource the flying?

As was stated similar situation in the NW/DL merger. Until SOC (?) then the planes have to be differentiated when talking with controllers on the ground.

The call sign will be United when all is said and done.

Just imagine when UA starts getting the new scheme...

"Ground, United XXX in Continental paint with a United sticker on the side"
or
"Ground, United XXX in new United Livery, which looks like Continental but says United"

I can't wait to see the CF approaching or leaving the C7 & C8 alleys in LAX

Ha! That is lousy even on a good day! This will be fun in EWR and IAH for now as well:

"United, er Continental I guess? Ramp, Continental xxx United sticker push"
"Continental xxx United sticker, push but give way to the United battle ship, then follow Company 737 also with United sticker at RL, contact ground B short K"

Maybe we should just resort to light gun signals until SOC.

I don't see why this is necessary. It was (correct me if I'm wrong) only done during the NW/DL merger, not previously. There are regionals out there today flying with planes, all under the same callsign, in a dozen different liveries.

Personally, I think this was more of a "beat into everyone's head that NW is now DL" idea rather than actual operational necessity.
