This morning an unhappy customer asked me why she had to check in at one terminal and then transfer to another before her flight departed. She didn't understand how her express flight could be departing from the main terminal. I explained to her that the airline was so busy whip sawing pilot groups against each other that they were no longer paying attention to the core business.
Nice one there Capt. You are part of the problem, not the solution.

I am sure she could care less about your whipsawing explination. General public knows NOTHING about pilot contracts. She probably wondered why she didn't get pancakes and a fruit plate on her 1 hour flight as well.
Nice one there Capt. You are part of the problem, not the solution.

They don't have to hope. They get to vote. If enough of them realize (and you can be sure they do) that outsourcing in any form is bad, then they will take it back.
Any pilot with half a brain (regional or not) should be able to see this, and support a bettering of the career for all. Anything short of limiting RJ's to a max of 50 seats is an unrecoverable concession to the CAL pilots. They only need to look at United to see what happened when the limit was raised to 70.
How many 737's does CAL have again? United? Nuff said

The line must be held for the betterment of this industry. I'm sure mgnt would not lose an wink of sleep giving away your jobs to us at the regionals. And believe me when i say that there are plenty of guys (excluding myself) that are salavating at the chance to fly your Airbuses and 737 at my regional and probably others. Scope must not be relaxed.

Now, what gain are you willing to give? I mean that in a "lesser pay raise" or whatever mindset. Scope for the new UA will not be retained at the CAL level without a price.
That is reality; however, I believe it is the smart thing to do. Having said that, will WB MEC members think that way if a nice carrot is presented to them knowing it will continue the decline of the pilot group as a whole to get that gain?
Personally, giving up x percent of a payraise that will bring back flying, improve job security, result in a resultant seniority advancement due to hiring and movement makes sense to the majority of pilots on both seniority lists. That is unless you are at the upper tier with nothing to gain and looking at a lower pay raise for getting that gain in scope.
We'll see how it plays out.
History would say...NO.
We'll see.

Management will ask for something in return regarding scope, but you have to put the horse before the carriage and you can't negotiate decent pay for 51-100 seats without the airplanes. Maybe a shorter cba might be the answer.

Those are some long a$$ legs for a pencil jet... holy crap! I would NOT want to be a pax or on a DH on any of those legs in an ERJ.
It'd probably hose me for a while, but 51-100 must be in-house... industry-wide! And at the regional level, No mo' racin' to the bottom for ALL of us, that includes the coat-tail riders. We're f'in jet pilots, not bus drivers... crap, they get paid better than most of us! We're the next generation of legacy pilots and we need to leave OUR side of the fence better than we found it.
I'm a fist of rage tonight.
