Default New CAL sytem bid out and I quote:

"Second, this bid has sufficient vacancies to provide positions for all remaining furloughed
pilots. It is anticipated that the recall letters for those pilots recalled on System Bid 11-05 as
well as this bid will be sent out shortly following the close of this System Bid."

Cheers

Kinda early for these vacancies in my opinion. With all the delays - the first delivery to CAL may be as early as late in the first quarter of next year. Perhaps CAL has been moved up the list at Boeing.

The bid is valid for over a year- into 2012. The 787 pilots will be trained next spring, then fly their old equipment until the 787 shows up. The posting date of the bid is different than the effective date.

From the bid posting (note the bold text--emphasis mine):

First, the introduction of the 787 aircraft is being accomplished through opening of IAH-787. Pilots bidding into either IAH-777 or IAH-787 should be aware that among other necessary predicates, in the event the FAA certifies the 787 as a common type rating with the 777 it is possible in the future that the IAH-777 and IAH-787 may be combined. If this combination occurs it will result in a subsequent System Bid allowing pilots to adjust their bid choices due to the merging of the Base/Equipment/Status’ (BESs). There would be no displacements from IAH-777 or IAH-787 equipment as a result of the BES combination. Anticipated 787 flying will include previously announced destinations of Auckland and Lagos as well as a seasonal destination from EWR. Training on the 787 is expected to begin in March 2011. Pilots awarded IAH-787 positions should anticipate returning to their previous aircraft following 787 training until needed for line operations based upon the 787 delivery dates. Current delivery plans, which remain subject to change, are for six 787’s to be delivered between the fall of 2011 and early 2012. Please keep in mind that this is a sufficiently complex process that is likely to be modified over the course of the next year. Pay rates for both the 777 and 787 are Widebody.

First, as far as what has been reported, the latest delay stems mainly from the RR/Trent engine problems. CAL has opted for the P&W engines. Not saying that some associated delay won't happen, but being a different engine type could keep CAL's delivery dates relatively close on target.

Second, CAL will not move up the list at Boeing any further. CAL has a history of not taking early aircraft off the line. When asked about this in recurrent ground school, one of the chiefs said we had moved up the line by a few numbers to take advantage of another airline canceling orders. The earliest plane we will take off the line is #35. Our position is to let other operators work out the initial problems before we fly them for the first time.

We ordered the GE engines not the P/W, plus there are problems with the tail who knows when we will getting them. My guess we will have a JCBA and SLI done before we see this aircraft on property.

"Safe to assume?" LOL...never at Continental. However, back-fill training usually starts first.

Also will the 787 go senior, junior or in between?
I'd say it will go senior if I had to guess. But just my opinion.

Widebody pay is a plus but the downsides are fairly annoying also, new plane new kinks and its either Auckland or Lagos (guessing one is a desirable location and one is not so much).
Now, why would you slam Auckland like that? New Zealand looks like it would be a beautiful place to visit if those "Lord of the Rings" movies are any indications. I think you owe that country an apology.
