I'm not quite sure where you got the "I've got mine/screw you mentality that is so evident at CAL" notion from. Yes, their are a FEW that think that way (they're at EVERY airline), but they are thinning out, thank God. As we are a younger pilot force, the true mentality is.................let's get what we deserve and MORE.

Here is one area where I do blame ALPA. It has been like this for years at almost every airline from the majors down to the beater feeders. New hires make zilch only to see a big pay bump in year 2. ALPA condemns a lot of airlines for the poor pay the first year, but in reality they have contributed to it. They could fight for more even increases of pay throughout the longevity scale. I think these big 50%-20%-20%-15% bumps in years 1-5 are ridiculous. But ALPA is also well aware that the voting power and dues income come from the senior guys.

Really? Are you serious? I don't even have to get into the $cab discussion to prove my point. Maybe you are a little sensitive after having voted yes on this POS contract (even though it was only bullet points at the time although having one as the head of our union certainly does cause one to scratch their head) But let's highlight just a few examples:

$30K (I think it is now slightly more now - woopdeeedo) for new hires,

Loss of crew meals - But the majority of the senior folks didn't lose that did they?,

Freezing the A fund - again the junior people took it in the shorts on this,

50% deadhead pay at the time - but the senior folks don't really deadhead do they?,

Crew rest seats - Ditto.

The list could go on but the point is that this contract reeks of cronyism brought to us (in bullet point fashion - cause they know it would never have passed otherwise) by none other than CALALPA and if you dig a little deeper - the committee chairmen which coincidentally the vast majority happen to be in that special club.

To me this merger is the greatest thing that could have ever happened. I'm soooo looking forward to flying with my new found brothers and sisters. Let the flushing begin!!
