Transition Agreement TA approved today.
Includes provision for hiring UAL furloughees at CAL.
Section 7-B. This item is designed to address hiring at one
carrier while the second carrier has pilots on
furlough, with a provision that the carriers hire
each other’s furloughed pilots. This was borrowed
from lessons learned from previous mergers. The
section includes gains for pilots who agree to
take positions at the bottom of the hiring carrier's
list. They include an agreement to use hourly
pay rates in place from the point when the pilot
was furloughed (at whatever airline he/she came
from), resulting in higher pay. The six-month wait
for insurance is also eliminated (this provision
also applies to our own furloughed pilots). In all
other respects, the pilot is treated as a new hire.
For purposes of the seniority list integration, this
provision has no effect, as a hired furloughed
pilot’s seniority is solely determined by his
seniority position at the originating airline.

More on the TA
As such, this Agreement accomplishes the following:
It specifies that the managements of Continental and United intend to complete the operational merger of the airlines no later than the first half of 2012.
It preserves the status quo, preventing Continental and United from shifting assets from one airline to another prior to the completion of the merger.
It provides furlough protection for all pilots on the property as of May 2nd, 2010, the date of the merger agreement.
It requires that, if either airline recalls its furloughed pilots and hires new pilots, that airline must offer jobs to the furloughed pilots of the other airline in seniority order.
It lays out a very rapid timeline for completion of the JCBA, with negotiations set to start on or about August 10th, 2010, with the intent of completion eight weeks later, on October 5th, 2010.

Depends on if we all collectively cave and accept a substandard contract. We have a history of doing so contract after contract. The only bright spot would be we have hired roughly 1/3 of our group since the disastrous Contract '02 and a good many of the suck-up scabs have fled the property.

I am RELIEVED that we are not voting on the JCBA separately. It's sad that I have more faith in the vote the UAL guys will cast instead of several of my own coworkers. I'm still flying with waaaaay too many people that think things are just fine as they are. Must be a IAH thing. I can only hope the rumored 'early out' packages become a reality and we lose a few more lunatics in the interim.

caving?

The only 'caving' will be management on scope, among many other things.

Superfluf,
Just out of curiosity, where did you get the provisions outlined in the first post? I'm furloughed UAL, so far, I haven't received any communication as to the content of the TA. It just sounds too good to be true and I'm wondering what the catch is.
Thanks for the information.....
