Continental Pass Privileges Info for UA pilot
UA pilots, I just wanted to give you some information about our Pass Privileges.
1. No unaccompanied buddy pass riders internationally.
2. Buddy pass riders not allowed in First Class.
3. Jumpseaters in First Class, no.
4. SA1 - everybody's favorite issue. Anybody with a supervisor title is given upgraded pass priviliges. Ramp supervisors, gate supervisors, engineers, even catering supervisors. They are boarded ahead of pilots and all other employees regardless of their length of employment.
5. Bonus -gate agents who routinely leave non-revs and jumpseaters behind. They can do so with impunity because they are rarely disciplined.
I know that pass privileges are the least of our concerns. However, this gives you some insight into our great "working together" culture.

1. There is some unaccompanied Int'l buddy travel allowed. Brothers, sisters, in-laws can.
3. On the aircraft that I am Captain on Jumpseaters always sit in first if there are seats available. Depends on whether or not the captain has any balls.
5. Again, not on my flights. I make the walk and insure everyone gets on.

Several other interesting tidbits are that Express Pilots use DOH to board and go ahead of CAL Pilots if they have more longevity. This dates back to when we used to own them but probably will change at the new UAL.
I heard also that retiree's at UAL go ahead of working employees. Not so at CAL and I'd expect to see that changed as well.

Looking forward to the merger. I only hope that at some point my new fellow pilot Prater shows up for a ride. I'll add gas, rip the seatbelts out the jumpseat, suck down the 02 to min levels, basically whatever it takes to keep that goober off the plane. He deserves a spot in the ALPA hall of shame.

As a regular international jumpseater on UAL I have never flown in Y class. UAL has been absolutely fantastic to me and basically every other offline jumpseater that I know of. It will be a very VERY depressing day if CAL nonrev standards take the lead in this merger.

Agreed. I was looked at like a lunatic by my crew last Summer when I went out of my way to get a UAL jumpseater in 1st class on a flight to ANC. I physically had to walk back to his seat back in row 38 or something and walk him to the front cabin as the FA's and gate agent were not going to do it. The CA didn't do a damn thing either except to say "that was nice of you", "why did you do that?". I told him how UAL crews take care of jumpseaters etc. and told the FA's that they needed to use their new(jumpseats for CAL cabin crew had just been offered by UAL and vice versa) agreements with UAL to see first hand how we all need to treat each other.
