Appreciate your openness to give an honest answer haha. I think we have a large amount of FO’s industry wide who convey the same logic and deny they’re afraid to upgrade. Most hide behind legitimate excuses like QoL.

Your views on securing your family’s future by reducing responsibility and “chances to screw up” is subjective. What about the security of having more money? Less financial risk? “Money trees is the perfect place for shade, and that’s just how I feel” Kendrick Lamar.

It might be even better to downgrade to FA. Less money but way less problems!

It’s pretty easy for a mid seniority WB F/O to make as much as a narrow body Captain, with way less effort and better layovers (if international destinations are your thing). If I upgraded I’d lose money and QoL.

How many years on property to hold that seniority?

I upgraded on the NB because I'm way too junior to touch the wide body in my base.....but I need to get PAID. Way I see it....year 5 the money is pretty much a wash WBFO vs NBCA. Can't wait to bid over and ride off into the sunset!

Depends on the base, ORD for instance average trip pays 17.5, unless you’re doing HND on the regular it ain’t happening. You’d have to be probably closer to 30% to have that often. I’d have to credit 95 odd hours to make same as a captain on reserve hitting 70 hours.

Smart move would be UAL but I'm guessing you're more of a DL guy.
