And definitely airbus as well. Got barely over half the 321s this year they were were supposed to.

Why would upgrading put a target on your back?

More responsibility. more chances to screw up. It's one thing if you're 52 with 3 kids coming from spirit. But when you're 27 why would you upgrade with 36 years to retirement? Learn the system for a couple years. You will have time.

I can't speak to the United side with much authority. If they keep up with their big expansion plans, I would expect you to upgrade faster there, yes. That being said, my UAL buddies make it sound like there is a reason upgrade goes more junior, namely that they dislike some of their reserve rules, but that info might be outdated with the new contract. Regardless I agree with the other poster that a few years difference in upgrade (maybe) isn't a reason to to turn down a class date at a legacy while you wait for a date at another.

One factor to consider is that Houston does have much better BBQ than Georgia! The BBQ here is fine, but pulled pork can't compare to a good Texas brisket.

In MCO, LAS, and IAH its 39%.
Huh? I live in one of those places, my effective federal rate was less than 20% last year. No state income tax. Property taxes are high, but I'm still paying less than $0.20 on the dollar for money I make.

Maybe you don't understand how progressive tax rates work, and think that you pay your top bracket rate on all monies? If so, you should definitely hit the books, and absolutely quit giving people advice on this stuff.

Analysis paralysis.

Take the first job offer. If you get a second one, then make the decision.

If only it were so simple. They get you on a lot of other things too. I live in such a town (well not as bad as SFO, but trying to get there). After doing some modest personal 401k contributions my takehome is about 40% of my gross check. And then I hope my wife doesn't do anything with her finances that triggers a big under-payment in April.

It doesn't even have to be an official tax... for example they divert what should be road mx funds to far out political agendas, so the roads are literally worse than some third world countries. I spend about $800/year per car on suspension work. I've had sidewalls destroyed by potholes, on an AWD SUV that's four new large $ tires since they all have to match diameter.

in the context of money difference with an upgrade, marginal tax rate is more applicable than effective. You are not describing the total tax burden, but how the additional income will be taxed. If you are single and contemplating upgrading at a legacy, it is highly likely all the extra money you would make will be taxed at 35% federal + 2.35% Medicare tax + state/local tax.

Hey thanks for reaching out. I really didn't have time to fact check the guy on his federal rates, merely reminding everyone of STATE INCOME taxes only. Usually is a pretty sobering Ice bucket when someone moves from a NO income tax state to a state that's "more thier scene"

I don't comment on property tax......while it is true CA, NY, NJ, CT are pretty friggn high....within those states it will still differ heavily municipally to municipality, amount of liveable space, and size of lot.

But Thank you for your advice.
