Farnborough Airshow: Airbus Order Rumor
The Farnborough International Airshow takes place July 22nd - 26th. I have heard a plethora of rumors, dating as far back as SK's visit to Toulouse post-'Alaska MAX 9 door blow out,' that there is going to be a large Airbus order announced at Farnborough. It seems like everybody knows someone who knows someone that apparently has insider information that this is happening, not just the London bus driver. A321neo seems to be a given in the rumor, but I keep hearing out on the line that there is a widebody order involved. In any case, we'll know within a week if these rumors had any teeth.

There was a lot of talk after the MAX 9 incident at the beginning of this year, but aside from the lease expiring, I don't think much has materialized. They did announce the 321neo leases to help cover the gap with the MAX 10 delay. I know they keep saying the MAX 10 is no longer part of the fleet plan for the purposes of making United Next happen, but I'm skeptical. United Next hinges on keeping CASM low -- and cheap unit prices (737 MAX) does it. The only way I see United striking a deal where they maneuver into earlier delivery slots of 321neos and/or getting competitive pricing is if they firm up their orders for the A350 ... which ... well, we'll see.
