I think part of what is happening is just that growth slowed juuuust enough for staffing to catch up.
Give it a minute, it’ll change again…

NBCA is moving more senior as well (it was going to the company eightball, so it’s not like it could have moved any junior…).

currently on the last snap shot SFO had 4 unfilled 737 CA. We will have another bid monthly as hiring ramps up to continue to make position for new hires and with Boeing max deliveries starting again and airbuses coming, and 787 deliveries should start to showing up regularly (unless Boeing messes up again) you will see things go junior again. This bid and probably the next will be a touch senior because everyone who thought I will bid it next bid just watched everything dry up and now they are jumping on the opportunity since it’s available again.

One vacancy isn’t reflective of a trend…there hasn’t been many widebody slots available so it’s going senior. I’m debating going NBCA from WB but can’t hold it this vacancy in my base despite there being lots of openings before that went unfilled. Doesn’t mean upgrade is suddenly very senior. The fall vacancies if anything will be more reflective on what the trend will be going forward

For the First Officer seat, we have a bunch. From highest to lowest---
IAH 737 FO - 108 unfilled
ORD 737 FO - 100 unfilled
EWR 737 FO - 77 unfilled
IAH 320 FO - 22 unfilled
LAX 737 FO - 20 unfilled
ORD 320 FO - 19 unfilled
LAS 737 FO - 11 unfilled
SFO 320 FO - 8 unfilled
DEN 320 FO - 6 unfilled
DEN 737 FO - 3 unfilled ( a bunch of current folks taking this bid are 737 FOs currently at other domiciles and the company doesn't have to count them in the final bid, so this number could go way up)
SFO 3737 FO - 3 unfilled
The company has 120 days to use any unfilled assignment for New Hires and they have total discretion on the order in which they are used. So no gaurnatees, but in general the areas they have the greatest need are filled first, so guessing a bunch of 737 FO assignments coming with a few 320 FO as well.

Looking at the latest snapshot, what we're seeing is a significant movement of recent new hires from the 3 bases that everyone got assigned to (IAH, EWR, and ORD) into the bases they really want. IAH, for example, is going to have 100+ unfilled spots as people (like me) bid out.
Also, since you can't do a lateral bid to another FO seat and simultaneously be awarded a future CA spot, we'll definitely see NBFOs bidding laterally to another base in this bid, and then bidding for CA in the next bid. This is the first bid in a few months to have significant NB movement. Me, for example, I'm an IAH FO who could easily hold an SFO CA bid, but I'm bidding SFO FO just so I can get home based ASAP...and then in the next bid I'll try to get SFO CA. I think the next vacancy bid will see a lot of that, just from talking to my classmates.
Ultimately though it doesn't make a huge difference if you get CA as a new hire, because you still have to complete probation and fly 500 hrs here before you go to upgrade training. You do get CA pay earlier (350 vs 500) which is nice. But it is highly doubtful you'll see any CA spots being offered in Indoc for quite a while yet.
Of course, I'm super new here, so this advice is worth about as much as you paid for it
