I believe it is FOMO. Folks are jumping in for the upgrade now that they are seeing that CA slots are drying up in their desired base.
Plus with the new reserve rules, trips that normally go premium will start to decrease with VECs now.
I slid into the left seat prior to the contract being signed anticipating that CA vacancies will dry up for my desired base. Yes, I will be jr for awhile.

The current vacation only had 1 unfilled CA slot. IMO there are too many variables to even make an educated guess. How long will it take Boeing to get their crap together? Is the economy slowing? DAL earnings suggest overcapacity for now. Was this vacancy a reflection of things to come going more senior with the new contract or an outlier? Only thing that anyone knows for sure is the earlier you get hired the better your chances. Seniority is everything.
