My god. Thread after thread. The contract basically doesn't apply on reserve. They put you on SC/FSB just because they can. If you don't meet your CA in ops at the beginning of a sequence you're gonna have a bad time and unsafe and might be a scab. United really sounds like a miserble place to work.

Is rather be required to scroll through the whole paperwork package before the “Accept Release” button becomes active than to make a phone call that is more often than not completely useless.

Wait... You mean to tell me you guys have to go to ops and "meet" before every flight?
Gate PA's should be illegal.
It's shocking that they can make you "meet at x at time y" before departure, That's insane to me. At aa the only requirement is to be on airport property 1 hour prior to departure and you only need to be at the jet to "complete your required duties in a timely matter", for me that's about 40 mins. That's for both international 777 going to China all way down to the lowley 737 going to Midland. Flightplans are drawn up by dispatch we can review them in 10 mins. This isn't hard work people.
Most pilots at aa haven't been to ops in months. Everything from checking in to expense reports are done via the iPad.

No, CA can’t make someone show early. I’d say sorry I’ll be there at show time. However they can say we will meet at ops or we will meet at the jet.

No, scheduling can’t just put you on FSB. It’s voluntary only now and as a result the company will not build them because they have to pay for it.
Yes, the company can covert a LC to a SC, but there is a cap. That is only applicable to traditional reserves, reserves on a voluntary early call line. LCR are strictly that now.
And no, majority of folks meet at the jet here on the narrowbodies. Our outliers aren’t reflective of the pilot group as a whole. Yes, widebody folks will meet in the FPA for augmented ops.
No, United isn’t a miserable place to work.

IMO, FO's job is hard enough... I text my FO's about 30 min prior to show and tell them I'm stopping by Starbucks and ask if I can get them anything on the way to the jet. Unless there is a reason why I need to fly the first leg, I always ask them if they want the first leg. I believe it helps the right tone, I want the FO to feel comfortable speaking up when something inevitiably does not go right. It's a team effort, and does not have to be hard...

There's a reason why United is well known for having reserve go more junior compared to Delta and AA.
