Crew Scheduling Treatment
Crew Scheduling here is worse than the regionals by far
Lies and mistreatment
Non-stop reassignments
Going out of hierarchy order
Line holders getting reassignments like crazy feels like reserve
Makes deals and than takes it back once you finish the flight.
More lies and manipulation
Culture from crew scheduling is pretty toxic
Fly Safe out there

Deals? What kind of deal did you make with them?

I filed numerous DARTs and spoke to my reps regarding these concerns during the contract negotiation and voting process. Unfortunately the overall position seemed to be not emphasizing QOWL enhancements in favor of letting the company do as they please to you and put some extra gold nuggets in your pocket. There wasn’t much desire to expend negotiating capital in those areas and I believe UPA23 has a lot of holes in it regarding checks and balances to ensure the company is reassigning and using reserves as they should. After all, here at United Airlines your day off never really is your day off.
I do believe the younger generation puts a higher emphasis on QOWL over pay, so hopefully with turnover in the pilot group we can make that shift in future contracts. That is unless we get some seniority and tell all the new hires “don’t worry you’ll be senior one day.” Don’t get me wrong, I still like money, but I dislike having to cancel plans when the company needs me even more.

If you are ever able to go to the OCC/SOC and experience what Schedulers go through on a shift, I would highly recommend it. Before I started at my current shop and started on the line, I had the pleasure of being a Crew Scheduler for a few months.
Getting verbally assaulted by Crewmembers for 10 hours a day can really get under your skin. Because of this experience, I tend to be a bit more patient when having to call into the OCC.

It used to be that a Crew Scheduling job was a 15-20 year seniority job. It paid well and was coveted by the ground folks who saw it as a good deal. Yea, there was always pushback from the type-As on the other side of the phone, but they knew their stuff, both FARs and contract. As a pilot, yea, it blew that you got reassigned or junior manned, but at least it was legal and compliant, so you could direct your ire at the contract, not the person.
Somewhere along the line, most airlines decided that it could be a minimum wage job, sometimes done by contractors. They'd screw up with obviously illegal trips and no one cares.
At DAL, a blown trip assignment costs the company bigly. Typically the pilot will get assignment pay (2x what was flown) plus pay and credit for the original trip. Sometimes another pilot would be paid in addition, so the company was paying essentially quadruple pay for trips, and that gets into big numbers on international trips.
Yet the managers who put this system in place seem to be completely immune to repercussions of their decisions.
BTW, if you're making side deals with the company and they jerk you around, you deserve what you get.

if you can get your trips to finish in the AM, this is a thousand times less likely. YMMV.
