Default New reserve rules

Any thoughts on the new reserve rules that will be implemented in August, now that we have the guide with ALPA interpretation ?
  • strategies?
  • Caveats?
  • comparison to old rules?
  • Going senior or jr?

Hard to say, but talking to senior folks and none of them are going to bid reserve ever again (their exact words). I’m looking forward to it and welcome the 18 hour call out!

My only thought is getting through this last month before the rules go into effect. I've been able to stave off a gnarly reserve schedule...until this July. Good lord, how I wish I could have held the PBS god's favor one more month! lol

the new SC rules for used/unused is going to bite us in the butt… on the WBs I’m guessing senior folks won’t risk it initially until they get a better idea on how it’s going on the line.

I’m one of them. We still suffer from crew scheduling PTSD.

Hasn't that been in place? Maybe I'm missing an aspect you're referring to.

Reserve can be great I'm sure, but seniors will never bid it because of the amount of money you can so easily make as a WB FO with seniority. I have some now, get pretty much any destination I want, weekends off if desired, and/or flyers if desired. Don't have the seniority to get all 3 at the same time, but always 1 or 2. Getting called for the worst intl trips that are opposite your body clock even just once a month turns you off from reserve. The other kicker which I'll say is the predominant driving force is the credit hours. I am averaging over 100 credit per month so far and if you looked at my calendar you'd be in disbelief. Hell I'm in disbelief at the moment. WB FO with seniority is the best job at the company. Can't see myself doing anything but jumping the trash can.

This right here. Work as little as possible for as much as possible.

maybe one day a “day off” is a day off. Scheduling can assign you a trip at 4:01pm for a 10:01 am show on your last day off before a block of reserve.

yea you don’t have to check your schedule any more but that doesn’t matter. The 18 hours start when it is assigned. Only protection is nothing before 10am. So if you don’t check CCS day prior you can get a nice call at midnight for a 10:01 show…

Unused short call is currently an hour of add pay which will change to an hour increase to MPG. I have been historically flying above MPG so it will probably result in a loss of money for me. However, if I can hold VEC, starting MPG might be high enough to not break guarantee and still get paid for unused short calls. I was also disappointed to learn that the company gets to choose between VEC and VSC lines- it’s not both.
