I have no idea how it’s going to be presented. I also don’t think this particular bid is going to be very representative of how senior these lines go in the longer term. I guessing there are a lot of more senior pilots who will be perfectly happy to let people junior to them experiment with the new stuff. Especially in a summer month. Nothing at all wrong with that.

I'd like to think that since they currently indicate non-profile reserve lines that they'll differentiate the new categories as well. We'll see in a few days I guess.

To me, that reads that the set commands for the new bid groups wont necesarrily fail if it can still award you traditional reserve with the restrictions. Does that sound right to anyone else? Not sure if I should put separate bid groups in without the set command.
So it turns out this part of the reserve guide is wrong. If you SET a LCL preference and don’t have the seniority for it, the bid group fails and moves on to the next. So basically follow up that bid group with a similar one without the SET command.

Unfortunately too late for the August period now but hopefully anyone unsure about this also reached out to the PBS help resources or put in backup bid groups just in case.

Captain awards are starting to drop. From a quick run through, the reserve awards don’t look any different than the past. It doesn’t appear there’s any way to tell exactly which type of reserve was awarded. I guess to know that info a pilot will have to wait for their individual award report.

SET commands by default fail if the underlying bid lines contained within it cannot be fulfilled… so the guide is correct. Correct way to bid these is using the SET command and choosing the special reserve line like LCL… then the following bid group remove the SET command and you’ll be awarded a traditional reserve line if you can’t hold the LCL.

A Set command itself can also fail a group if it can’t be honored. (For example, if someone is too junior to hold a reserve type bid, that alone will cause a bid group failure.)

You and I are saying the same thing that’s correct. The reserve guide (though it may have been fixed in the latest version) said the opposite in one of the paragraphs.
