I didn’t see it on any of the drop downs. Guess I need to read the PBS newsletter

VEC/VSC/LCL selecctions are located in the SET command.

I was just reading the newsletter and it talks about how if you bid one of the new reserve types, your bid groups are more likely to fail because of the SET command. I guess we have to submit a copy of our regular RSV bid groups, but without the set command, to ensure the bid doesn't fail purely because of that command???

You just put the bid groups in order of what you want as you would normally in PBS. eg… VEC BG1, SC BG2, etc.

The comments about the set command failing had to do with putting in a set command for the extra day off in teh categories in which the LPA is under 77 hours. Also, bidding for an additional off day within a Traditional, Long Call, or a Compressed reserve bid group will fail the bid group.

But to bid a VEC, VSC, or LCL line, you find those under the SET commands. You can;t bid for them without using SET. You get into trouble when using another SET for teh additional day off. That's how I understand it, anyway.

That makes sense, but I kinda got the feeling that if you want, say, LCL, then the guide was saying "bid a reserve line with LCL in it. Then bid the same thing but without LCL so that your bid doesn't fail purely because of LCL." Hmm I think a call to the helpline may be in order...

That is just how PBS works. The statement above assumes that LCL is not your first priority, but the other commands beneath the set are.

That may be correct but I'm just saying that if you want to bid a special reserve line, SET is where you'd find the command. Running the BAT will be even more important when bidding reserve for AUG and beyond. There will definitely be some mis-bidding going on for the first couple of months.

Ah, thank you. Sorry, I'm a total novice at UAL's implementation of PBS. So the Set command functions like a "Must", in which if you bid for a certain RSV type and can't hold it, but you could hold everything else in your bid, the bid would fail?

That’s exactly right. That is also why, especially as a junior bidder, you should have many bid groups, each subsequently relaxing the constraints to get most of what you want. If a preceding one fails, it moves on to the next BG.
