I'm betting she emblished the story a bit with her 'trusted friend' so as to sound like she saved the day. Why else mention something that is not too uncommon? The friend probably thought it was their duty to report it.

And you should absolutely approach that individual in the airport, tough guy. Especially considering every single detail is a rumor but you seem to have all the facts.
I believe some of Nixon's attorneys gave him this advice as well.

Get real, buddy... it literally happens ALL THE TIME. It's why we have a national whistleblower law... to report wrong doings anonymously. Many of these reports result in disciplinary actions and/or termination.

All the time? I've never once heard of an anonymous tip about a genuine mistake leading to the termination of a pilot.

So no one thinks the third party story is made up to make her appear to also be a victim and not her “fault” after it blew up in her face?

I personally think a third party (who doesn't know feces about fornication when it comes to professional flying) reporting an error that was trapped and didn't compromise safety of flight is a LOT more likely than a 121 widebody pilot dropping a dime about an offline crew who gave them a jumpseat.

I find it very hard to believe that someone even remotely familiar with the airline industry would take it upon themselves to help out a pilot friend….unsolicited.
Now the hubby…plausible if he wanted to roll her under the bus in a divorce dispute.
All conjecture at this stage.

I have a nagging suspicion that if she wasn't a she, and was a "good $hit" that flew at Luke, that there wouldn't be nearly the amount of caterwauling in this thread that there currently is.

Oh for sure not one of the ‘good ol boys’.
I always chuckle a little when someone adds the “what happens in the cockpit stays in the cockpit” bit to a brief.
Alright Cool Hand Luke how exactly you plan on keeping anything a secret with CVR, FOQA,ADS-B and ATC?
Not to mention cabin crew and 140+ with cellphones. That carrier landing is on TikTok before you get to the gate.
