This is beyond a bad idea. Most military pilots don't seem to grasp how important every single seniority number can be. Reschedule your AT. The class you want to postpone to might not even happen given the state of flux in the industry.

This right here.

Literally one seniority number can make the difference between getting a line in your home base, or commuting halfway across the country to reserve for a long time. Happened to me at my last airline. At UA, the class immediately before mine had plenty of openings in my home town...and my class didn't. Luckily I've only had to commute to reserve for four months, but you never know what even one week's delay can do to your base and seat opportunities.

My buddy was slated for the same SWA class I started at in March of this year. He pushed the class two weeks later, because of a family vacation. SWA cancelled that class, and every other 2024 class after it. Had he not gone on that vacation, he'd be at SWA now. Instead, he had to go back to 135, and Lord only knows how long it'll be before he gets back into a major 121 carrier.

+1 on this one.

I know a guy in exactly the same situation, not due to a vacation but because he "wasn't in a rush". Now he's at a 135 indefinitely, waiting in the SWA CJO pool. What a silly move...

It's "Annual Training", aka the two weeks a year of active duty training that national guard / reserve guys do in every branch of the military.

The funny thing is that you can generally get out of it for extenuating circumstances, and you can still get a good year for retirement without AT, so long as you attended all of your other drills that year.
