I find it interesting though that every one of those crews thought everything was stituation normal right until it wasn't. Shows how quickly things can go sideways either through mechanical issues or poor piloting.

Seriously though.
My jaw hit the floor when I saw this. (I don't work for UAL) I suppose it's possible for the FO to say that he attempted to speak up and was overruled by the CA.
Just knowing what I know about how SM works, admittedly not much, there is no way any pilot should allow this to happen. Personally, I approach every thing I do in uniform with the idea that I am being recorded, because there's a very good chance that I am.

Just curious as to what the policy is at UAL WRT this. I’ve flown plenty of charter at DAL, never opened the door at all, and never even thought too. Or that it was a good idea.

it’s very clearly not allowed in the FOM. Although on more than one occasion I have had to remind the CA of this on charter flights.

I can't imagine any CA would proceed with the evolution if the FO actually spoke up in opposition. Well who knows, this CA appears to be a special kind of special (more for filming it than for doing it).
Sad thing is the CA might be financially set to retire anyway, which might of enabled the behavior a bit. FO looked kind of young though, if anybody has the number for that truck driving school...
Maybe worth pointing out that if a charter was conducted under the right regs, it might actually be OK to do this, if the regs and FOM allowed it. But most of the shops I've worked at did charters under 121.

This is public knowledge and we all have an equal right to an opinion. If you aren't looking for discussion and opinion about the industry, why would you ever log on to a pilot forum? That's literally the reason it exists.
The part about "egos at purple" is fantastically silly. In fact, at 3 am I find there are pretty much no egoes at all (you know, Maslow's Heirarchy and all). You're certainly not going to find anyone whose career goal was to parade around the terminal playing the big shot (and we've all met some of those). I'm not real sure how you make that kind of an assessment about 5400 people but more power to you.

So you concede that I'm an airline pilot, on an airline pilot forum, discussing news from the airline industry? How wholly inappropriate. Somehow I hacked my way behind the UA paywall.

anyways, doesn’t appendix s talk about pilots making statements on behalf of the company to the public/media? you don’t get to have opinions when it comes to speaking on behalf of the company concerning a topic like this. sorry.

If they didn’t want it on the internet, they probably shouldn’t have made a video of it, or post it to the internet. Speaking of people who should “know better”…
