UNITED???? Passenger in CAPT seat in FLIGHT?

Obviously judgement in this case was not sound. You dont have to be able to recite verbatim, the page and paragraph # of the Ops manual section that prohibits this to know it was a bad idea.

it’s easy to armchair critique someone else’s bad idea. We all do things that someone else would say “what were you thinking?”

Wearing a polka dot tie with a pinstripe shirt under a checkered blazer, "what were you thinking?"
Violtaing a policy that's in a "book", manual, what have you is a completely different animal.

Or, like everyone, we all have areas we think we matter, areas we don’t, and areas we haven’t realized how much they matter

They, on their own, authorized passenger entry to the flight deck during a revenue leg, occupy a PF seat and made a reg bust mockery of training/checking at a major carrier. You cannot be serious.

FOM only protects the company? Tin foil hats anyone? Operating per the FOM also protects you and the crew. Yeah, some of it is obviously CYA by the company and airlines couldn't operate if everyone followed the guidelines (eg. x miles from a thundertorm) to the absolute letter.
