When's the last time any of you hand-flew 350 and .82? The impact of a large manual input at that point is potentially disastrous. At the very least those out of their seats would likely be injured.

Anyone rember Aeroflot 593? If the guy sitting in the UAL seat the other day had put a bit more pressure on the yoke, things could have gotten out of hand very quickly.
I'm not saying it's OK, just that her years of knowledge and experience weren't overcome by reckless sexual frenzy

Yes. And if the dude mashed a rudder pedal he probably didn't know about as he got in or out of the seat...yikes

For those not familiar, 121 airlines can actually operate non-revenue flights under 91, and charter flights under 135, if desired. Some have done it in the past and I'd guess some sectors still do (ACMI).

But they also have the option to operate all of their flights under 121, domestic, flag, or supplemental. Most majors seem to do that today as far as I can tell. In that case you have to comply with all the usual rules.

Also many airlines which might do a 91 repo for example, have FOM language that the pilots will comply with all normal SOPs, so the 91 part really is more for dispatch and maybe mx relief.

I love UAL, I respect UAL and any other airline that helps me pay the bills however (and that's MY opinion but I'm entitled to it) the next step should (have) be(en) the Chief Pilots calling the crew in and telling them, well since it's baseball these pax are into then maybe some baseball SOP is called for here):

"X, Y, we're letting you go. You failed to perform according to regulations. There's not much to say. Julie (pick a name) at HR will handle the details. I'm sorr. That's the way it's gotta be"

Full stop. No ifs. No buts. No alternative explanations. No nothing!

Goodbye! Thanks for your service. Who's next in the seniority list? Call them. They just got lucky

I've flown a few charters at UAL. The rules were clear. Door stays closed. The pilots will not initiate contact with the players before or after the flight. IF any player talks to you, keep it professional. Don't even think about asking for an autograph.

Given the increased scrutiny that UAL is currently under, I'm beyond shocked at the stupidity of the entire crew, to include the FAs. No one voiced any concerns?

If the pilots aren't fired, they should be given forced downgrades to 737FO to EWR (I assume these two are out of DEN) with 3 year seatlocks, and even a special base lock (I just dreamed that one up to emphasize how stupid this was) after their unpaid suspensions. This is not a simple retraining event.
Ironically, I wouldn't be surprised if the FAs all get fired for this. At the very least, all of the FAs have probably done their last charter.

To the entire crew, thanks for even more increased scrutiny that every UAL flight crew will face due to your inability to follow the FARs.

There is no defense for this. This is why we can't have nice things.

Do you work for Boeing?

At United we have this union called ALPA and even our Chief Pilots are members so your whole post is just silly virtue signaling.

Thanks for your 2 cents worth.

im not sure what you are trying to say here but United has already removed them from flying….just like they do for every investigation.

there will be an investigation people don’t just get fired on the spot.
