Simply say "standby" and continue to do what you need, or better yet say nothing in response and continue to do what you need. There's no obligation to accept a clearance or instruction unless you're willing and ready. The word "unable" is an option too. Why get annoyed and angry?

Its happened to me many many times and i've handled it as described above.

If ATC gives you "line up and wait" and it looks too close, simply say "unable, too close". Why get upset?

I dare ATC to give me a number to call in these cases. I haven't had any takers in 24 years.

And again, all that counts is what’s in the manual…not what some Riddle guy taught you in the days of yore. Stowing the speed brakes is an approved method of kicking off the auto brakes and had zilch to do with this accident
Amazing to see a guy with this much experience do something this dumb. You don't need to count boards on a 12K runway. Much easier to just look straight ahead and see there ain't much pavement left. With the vis they had the pavement lights would have been bright and us civ guys know how to read CL and edge lights. They are color coded and everything. The 2 f'ing miles of pavement behind them should have clued this Captain in on the scarcity of pavement left.

Crazy to think about. I was nearly castrated for suggesting the pilot was a senior guy (everyone was pointing fingers at DEI or junior pilots). Experience can lead to complacency which went over everyone’s head despite me pointing it out.

Yet here we are, and apparently neither the Ca or FO appears to have had the SA you proclaim.

We will see if it stays in the manual. On the 320 fleet the only approved method of autobrake disengagement is with the foot pedals. Looks like another opportunity for further cross fleet harmonization.

What's more amazing to me, is why someone with that much seniority was still on the POS 737. It's not like we're talking LUV here where that's the only choice. This dude could be flying any damn plane at UAL. I question his sanity more than his skill.

Air Force mishap data shows the most dangerous group of pilots are experienced majors/lt col's who are instructors/evaluators, and the second most dangerous group are inexperienced Lt's. Safety data also shows that for every mishaps there are likely dozens to hundreds of similar near misses for every mishap that ends in bent metal. I wonder how many other infallible experienced captains took turnoffs way too fast but were lucky to have slightly drier conditions or less rubber deposits. Over 1 million mainline flights per year, I wonder what the most dangerous 0.001% of runway exits look like? That's still about 10 instances per year, almost 1 per month. I wonder what February or April's sketchiest taxiing incident looks like?

Relying on autobrakes seems smart, but using techniques to estimate maximum speeds vs distance remaining markers (or boards) to back up the autobrakes in case plan A doesn't work is a good idea too.

Why? Look how senior the 737 goes at any mainline that isnt AS or WN. Great pay, QOL, layovers...
