Agreed, I just found the answer and got the contract. I started reading from my first post, I'm new to the UA forum.

The new contract I believe in August, but it may be implemented already gives you certain amount of pay for being enrolled into that day off, and your day off is restored. The old contract had the six days in a row, but the new contract allows you to split those days off.

Wide-Body base is a typically a global reserve base, most 756 bases are as well, except for San Francisco and Los Angeles. Those are not global reserve bases like I mentioned that it could change month-to-month, depending on what flying is being offered for a fleet and base.
THANK YOU, the widebody info was not in the previous posts.

So how would that work if you've got a relatively short commute and want to fly home because you're on long call the next day and it doesn't look like you'll get used? Do you just call and let them know you'll be on a flight and not reachable for those couple of hours but you'll acknowledge anything when you arrive?

Exactly this. I normally pick up overnight SCR, tends to finish between 5-7am. If I go unused, I wait till boarding time for my flight, ring them up and tell them I'll be on a flight for the next XX hours and wont be available until then. They put a comment on your schedule and thats about it. You can normally then bank on having that day off and will normally get assigned another SCR/trip for the following day, or another day on LSR depending on where you fall SILO/FIFO

Something I think worth mentioning and would've been nice to know about reserve prior to coming here is that you can't pick up extra flying on your days off. You can only agressive pick up a trip that fits in your reserve available days/available days -1 day. Also, you are not eligible for any premium pay trips while on reserve. The only way to make any extra money on reserve is somehow picking up enough higher credit trips to break min guarantee (not easy to do with limited days to work), or pick up short calls for 1 hour of add pay per short call.

It’s 1 hour of add pay per unused short call, changing to 1 hour increase to MPG in August (you don’t get an hour for just sitting short call. You can also snag a late built short call for an additional 1 hour of add pay.

The company has magically learned how to run an airline without field standby, so the prospects of getting 3 hours of add pay for sitting at the airport for 4 hours have all dried up. Perhaps it’s because pilots would trip over themselves for an hour of add pay to show up under the 2.5 hour call out instead of forcing the company to need FSB, but I digress.

There are some more changes coming in August that should increase pay for reserves, but this place will never be Delta where reserve can go senior and thunder rolls.

This is absolutely the correct overall summary, but there are some other ways to make a little extra money on reserve too that no one has mentioned yet:

For NB guys, you can target long sits and long duty days for the add pay (3-D-6 and 3-D-7). Of course, that means you have to actually go fly some long days, but if you don't mind doing it, you may be able to find some trips with 3-5 hours of add pay fairly regularly.

Primarily for the locals, you can volunteer for an assignment early on your first day and pick up an extra hour or two (20-K-10-a).

And for everyone, you can try to work some extra reserve days if you want. You can pick up an extra day's MPG if the LPA in your category is high enough (5-E-5-d), or offer to convert up to 2 days off to reserve days for 4 hours add pay each (5-E-5-c).

And yeah, tons of new stuff coming in August that will add plenty of new options.

Bottom line: know your contract, my friends... we're going to be working under it for a long time.

I'm sure there's a catch here somewhere, but these VEC Reserve lines seem pretty attractive if you live in base. What am I missing?

20-K-1-f-(2)-(f) A VEC Reserve shall be paid two (2) hours of Add Pay for each awarded block of reserve days that starts in the Bid Period. If the Pilot takes an affirmative action to reduce the number of blocks of reserve days, the Add Pay will be reduced by the
number of blocks the Pilot's action removed. A VEC Reserve shall receive an additional fifteen minutes (0:15) of Add Pay for each day of Reserve during the Bid Period. For example, a VEC Reserve Line containing seventeen (17) work days in four (4) blocks of Reserve days (all of which start in the Bid Period) shall receive twelve and one-quarter
hours of Add Pay (12:15) [(17 times 0:15 hours) plus (4 times 2:00 hours)].
