The junior WB Captain in training right now is a '99 hire. Same as a '06.

So to answer the OP's question, seventeen years.

Doubt it all you want but that’s what seniority report says. Based on the number of retirements in 5 years the report would be correct. This only for sfo 777 ca.

Only if NOBODY else bids in. That report is completely useless.

Retirements are the biggest factor. Old farts can still bid in but they also still have retire too.

asking this question is a fools errand. In the past 2 1/2 years, we’ve hired like 6000 people. In the past 3 1/2 years, we’ve hired like 6000 people. There are gaps where people separated by a single seniority number were hired YEARS apart.

we have 100 plus additional options of 787s on order. Do we end up taking them all before something wacky happens?

Not too long ago, it was a decade+ to hold NB Captain. Now you can get that on day one.

so, how long to hold WB Captain?there’s not a soul on earth who can give you an accurate answer.

If things stay good and orders get delivered, maybe15 years? But I also just pulled that number out of thin air. So…/shrug.
Word. Projections in this business are silly. Anecdotally, I was sitting right seat in a 777 at year 2, with NB captains junior to me..... 8 years later, at year 10, I was throwing gear in a 757 on reserve, unable to even hold a 777 right seat. Sheet happens. On a related note, UAL dropped 10% yesterday to a fresh 52 week low after lowering 4th qtr profit estimates. I believe Jim Morrison said it best, "the futures uncertain and the end is always near".

so retirements and if no others senior to you bid for a captain
got it

SFO 777 captain snapshot shows 2200 seniority in case you missed it

again 6200 seniority
if you are there by year 14 you will get it

as long as Boeing does not f--- up the deliveries

You might want to double check that. Yes, the stock went down 10%, but so did every other airline stock. And it was because Delta adjusted their outlook for next year down just slightly. And it was not even close to a new 52-week low. United will announce 4Q earnings on the 23rd.

This. I didn’t see any update to UALs ‘24 forecast. That will come from SK or BH on the earnings call. Ed just updated DALs. Not sure where that guy read that.

Mea Culpa. I was reading a story from October. I didn't notice the date.
