Im going to respectfully disagree. I know about 8-10 3000+ pointy nose types that have had successful interviews traditionally since March, and I’m but one person, so….

For whatever reason (timing, hiring environment etc.), the message you should probably take away is to strengthen your application. Easiest way is to go to job fairs. After that get some 121 flying on your application, preferably at one of UALs competitors or their regional partners. 135/91/DoD contractor experience won't hurt if it's all you can get in this current hiring environment but 121 time at a non UAX carrier is most ideal.

I know people who had their application in at UAL for six years and others in for six weeks before they got a call during the same calandar year. The hiring environment has changed rapidly several times over the last 5 years. It will probably change again some more. Keep a positive attitude and keep working towards ending up at a career destination for yourself.

Echoing this, but also take a look at the swa/spirit/fedex/AA, all stopped hiring probably into next year.DL has pulled back a lot from what their projections were, so United is probably doing the largest hiring if a earlier post is accurate. With less competition for new hires the mins will go up. AA will have to hire sometime next year just based on retirements unless they shrink which I don’t see happening in this current economy. Once Boeing gets things going I think you’ll see another mini wave of hiring so now’s the time to get all ducks in a row

UA is utilizing UMPP to meter their hiring and program out future hires. I get your military but the hiring market has changed drastically - you are now up against 8-10K hour Spirit folks with 121 experience. Boost your resume with classes you can attend through Mil - safety CRM etc. attend job fairs etc and get your face and resume out there. Many of those on the UMPP track are retiring military with high time but have also put the time in networking.

My guess (with zero data)

Days of majors taking regional pilots with less that 1000 121 PIC are done.
1) lots of other good hiring options from military/ULCC
2) sabotaging the regional captain pipeline is just an awful thing for the majors. It is in all of their best interests to stop harming that model. They didn't have any other choice 2021-2023. Now they do.

That’s because the company has zero problem telling a qualified person “sure we’ll offer you a CJO with a nonbinding pinky promise to get you a class 3 years from now, if we’re even holding indoc classes then, and we know there’s about a 30% chance you even intend to stay at United, so let’s see where we are in 2-3 years and go from there”. The company has a much bigger concern hiring someone and getting them a class date 4 months from now when history proves that we cannot depend on Boeing’s delivery schedule to staff the airline so we aren’t even sure how many FO’s we’ll need.

I like the UMPP program and it’s a step in the right direction, but it’s not something that anyone should rely on. If anyone gets a UMPP CJO they should continue interviewing because we have no idea what the industry will look like in the mid or long term. The long term hiring projections and who we interview and hire for what we need next month are very different equations.

I am thinking furloughs are coming soon since it seems WWIII is nearly upon us. I am hoping things can still settle down but we are getting to a very dangerous place in the world. All this hiring is great, but big problems are likely coming for our economy and airline jobs.

Honestly I was becoming deeply troubled by the fact we were some 200 posts deep without a Pipeman doomer troll post. Thanks for restoring balance to the thread; I can sleep easier tonight.

I’m simply paying attention to the world around me and how this will affect our airline jobs. Look around that website I linked and you’ll see what I’m talking about. I’m prepared but will fly and save money until the pain comes.
