I know two applicants personally with CJOs who applied via the UMPP route. Both have late ‘24 dates of availability. Your resume as stated would be more competitive than what they put up; so I’d suspect that maybe it’s your Date of Availability holding you back…but that’s just my pure speculation.

From what I've seen UMPP invites have gone out based on being competitive and by availability date -- yours would be the latest one I've seen among folks I know that've gotten an invite, but not by a whole lot; others may know closer to yours.

Get your app reviewed yet? It's worth polishing it up if it isn't yet. The military accidently trained us to write about ourselves in a way (downplaying our accomplishments) that doesn't help on an app.

Tl;dr - Given the current gouge that United is only really considering UMPP applications, should I switch my FO app to a UMPP app?

I am just outside of 6 months to availability (1 Dec, so 7 months). Back in February when I submitted, I took the UMPP program guide's advice to apply using the traditional FO app if you meet all qualifications and are inside of 12 months. Now with this alleged shakeup in hiring practices, that seems like not good information anymore...at this point is it worth switching back over to the UMPP app or just stay the course?

I have multiple friends with similar experience and later availability getting invites/interviews via UMPP while I sit here not hearing anything. I have a Delta CJO and got it very quickly after applying, so it's doesn't seem like there's something in my record that is problematic (2500TT, 1200 PIC all multi engine, IP/EP in multiple aircraft, no checkride failures or Q2/Q3s, strong job history/accomplishments, multiple internal LORs, app professionally reviewed, etc...).

Only gouge I've heard this year was UMPP outside of six months, Traditional inside of six months. Not sure when that changed. Switch your app, but realize that historically, submitting an application inside of 12 months availability was considered submitting late. UAL is interviewing UMPP applicants available in 12 months at this point so you may not be able to snag an interview slot before it's time to change your application back to traditional at the six month mark. Other options include pushing back your availability date to stay in the UMPP window, keep your availability date and not panic because you're outside the window of consideration for traditional applicants or not panic and go to Delta.

(second hand info) The hiring calls and HR/hiring teams recommend against it. My guess is the reason why UMPP folks are getting CJO's is because the CJO's at a date TBD aren't worth very much when class dates can be pushed back indefinitely if we only need 1500 pilots this year and it costs the company very little to keep people in the pool indefinitely. At the 6 month mark you're going to convert back to the traditional path anyways so I don't think that will buy you much vs the possible risk of looking like you're playing games with your availability date.

3800 TT (multi engine turbine)

2300 PIC

Traditional app on file for 1 month then converted to UMPP 11 months from availability date.

Leadership assessment email ~1 week after converting traditional app to UMPP

Interview invite 1 week after completing leadership assessment

CJO (aka “acceptance into UMPP”) 2 business days after interview.

Highly recommend Spitfire for prep.

The UMPP stipulates that participants "must have flown at least 50 hours of flight time within the 12 months immediately prior to transitioning to United." I am in an active-duty non-flying position, so I'm trying to determine how I would obtain these 50 hours at the lowest cost and as quickly as possible. One idea I have considered is "other time" in civilian aircraft where I share a Cessna rental with a friend and log half of total time as PIC and the other half as "other". Although the United application does allow for entry of "other time" (defined as "any time added to your total that is not considered PIC or SIC"), as far as I can tell, "other time" is not even a category for civilian time (alongside PIC, SIC, Dual) and I'm not sure how I would log it. Can anyone clarify or offer suggestions on this?

If you don't have a CFI and can't log dual given, have your buddy put on a view limiting device and you can log that time as safety pilot time

Following up for the UMPP lerkers:
- Changed my Avail date to 15 Jun 25 after I did my terminal leave math
- Hogan Invite: 13 May
- Interview Invite: 14 May
- Interview dates are all through June right now

Open to interview gouge from those that have done it! The good and the bad. Working the prep courses already.

UMPP eligibility expanded to include some reserve / guard members:

To better support those currently serving, we’re pleased to share that the United Military Pilot Program (UMPP) has officially expanded the program eligibility to include those who are full-time active-duty members of the Armed Forces of the United States, including active reserves currently serving as Training & Admin of Reserves (TAR), Navy Full-Time Support (FTS), or Active Guard Reserve (AGR).*

*Part-time Reserve Component pilots, including those currently activated, are not eligible for UMPP. Part-time Reserve Component pilots who meet United’s hiring requirementsare encouraged to applyvia the standard United pilot hiring process.
