yes is the basic answer… their are instances on a basic flight that could come up during Ops that result in an unscheduled late return into a day off (your last flight of day is mx cancel and rolled into an RDO)… compensation and also day off restored auto tied to these instances within the new TA.

So the idea that adding one global flight to a BES makes everyone have rollable days off for any assignment is false.

Correct. A pilot can only rolled for a global trip. Let’s say a pilot is on global reserve on the 787 which does both domestic and global trips - The pilot could be rolled into their days off for a “global” trip to Singapore, but not for a “basic” domestic trip to Newark. Just because a pilot is on “global reserve”, it doesn’t mean that they’re only called for global trips. It just means that they can only have certain days off moved FOR a global trip assignment.

Also, used RDOs get restored, so it's not like anyone's losing days off. Some smart reading of open time, coupled with a tactical aggressive pickup and the 24hr block after global trips, usually avoids RDOs being used entirely.
New TA also makes it harder for the company to use RDOs. It has to be advertised at 50% PPU first, and then if someone is rolled they now get 5:15 add-pay in addition to LPV.

People make it work really well and that variety is what makes working for a huge legacy carrier awesome; that you can find your niche, but for some of us getting nonspecific days back is pretty meaningless against losing specific days/plans. I think the ability to split your HDO’s will be a huge game changer though.

The biggest rub for me with this TA however is if you look at page 21 of the Pilot Contract Comparison guide, we lag our peers when it comes to rescheduling footprint protection. It is industry standard to get pilots home on the same day they were originally supposed to. Here at United, you are always at risk of getting worked into your day off every time you go to work.
So not only do we get to deal with FDO’s and RDO’s, you can be reassigned into a day off if the company needs you. In fact with this new TA, the only days you cannot be rescheduled into are GDO’s. They can work you into vacation days and you can claim $1500 for them taking the day off from you. There is a lot of opportunity at this place to get worked into a day off, so make plans at your own risk.
