If said base is a United hub (ie not vegas, cleveland etc) it's not hard to imagine a move helping over a 30+ year timeframe.
Fedex seems interested in reducing pilot hours. I doubt it turns into a "bad" job before 2060 but significant stagnation and structural change aren't hard to imagine.

Is 3 years significant seniority in your view. I mean if my base gets taken out it's gaining seniority just to commute to reserve. As well most of the seniority are folks leaving to legacies not natural seniority gain

I'd come on over. You'll enjoy having the option to fly something other than that horrible excuse for an airplane.
More importantly, compare the business models. You work at a good one, but it's about as big as it's gonna get. It's also a very young airline seniority wise, which means marginal gains for you involving QOL and no opportunity to ever do anything other than wrestle that pig to the ground again, and again and again. Southwest has historically done well during downturns and should be around for the rest of your career.
United learned some interesting lessons during the pandemic that the other legacies didn't grasp. After barely meeting our obligations in 2020, we've got 20 billion in cash on hand now, and are paying down our debt at the rate of one billion a quarter. When whatever the next thing that happens happens, we'll be able to maintain our fleet and employees, and move into our competitors markets as they shrink. (Your employer is pretty good at this)
Both airlines are a good choice. We go everywhere. In a couple of years, you could be commuting to Newark and flying an Airbus A321 to a Morocco layover. Or you could be a lance Captain laying over in Cleveland in January, sliding down the runway in your super hoover, on the way to the gate where the police are waiting to arrest drunk Uncle Cletus for inappropriately touching the 16 year-old he was seated next to.
Duuuuude.

Also considering similar situation- just wondering what type of chance do you have to make bank at UAL. Looking at the new contract a second year captain would make 313, and have a 75 hour guarantee so am figuring about 290k per year… if you pick up open time is is straight pay or at time and a half? I was curious as currently making that or more as an fo at current job as long as I pick up little extra flying
