so full of mis-information :

all freezes for people to bid for any narrow body CA vacancies must be lifted: this was not done for any of the closed vacancies so those unfilleds cannot be offered

Additionally all new reserve improvements must be in place before any accelerated captains are allowed. The timeline for reserve improvements is August 2024.

That is encouraging and would take the entirety of that timeline to implement that stuff, in theory. However, a captain shortage is the biggest problem UA management faces. The cost of implementing these QOL improvements is peanuts compared to the revenue they stand to gain by making sure there are enough NB CA's to carry out United Next (one way or another), and apparently it's cheaper to implement all of this stuff than to incentivize upgrade enough to move the needle. The company wouldn't have negotiated for this if they didn't think there was a realistic chance of this scenario becoming a reality.

I think I get it.... For example: 400 pilots in base x 20% reserve coverage = 80 reserve lines x 15% = 12 LCL lines minimum.

Is this correcto?

yep. I’m trying to figure out which reserve option is better… I live in base and wonder if LCL, traditional reserve, or VEC is best if I don’t want to fly.

I bet the 3% lcl goes in top 10% so you may not need to worry

does the implementation not serve to both improve reserve AND incentivize CA upgrades. I’d say it does as junior captains will be subject to them. They threw money at the issue as well

you’ll want to look at the assignment ladder and then decide. LCL is first up for a trip.

there are 25 steps to the assignment ladder that scheduling has to follow.

Yeah… to me it looks like volunteering for LCL is an easy way to get the fullest schedule as a reserve. I’d go traditional.
