I really wish they'd hurry up and make this a requirement. Everyone uses a headset anyway, even the crusty b00mer types who make $300k but can't be bothered to spend any money on a decent headset.
The only seriously unsafe things I've dealt with at UAL were exactly for this reason. Crusty dudes refusing to use intercom, either can't hear me or can't hear ATC, whatever. It's a huge safety issue, and I'm sure the subject of many an FSAP. The sooner they put this into SOP, the better. There is zero reason to not use the technology, especially when communicating is the single most important thing we do in CRM.

If SOP allows it…….I’m doing it 🍻
Hell I’d keep doing it knowing it triggers some of you so bad 😂
P.S. you won’t change SOP on APC

The problem with the 777 intercom is that it doesn’t latch open like the Airbus intercom. It’s a PTT switch. Why Boeing thought this was an acceptable solution is nothing short of baffling.
Bad enough on a narrowbody, now given that the 777 is frequently going out with 3 or 4 pilots, why was the intercom merely an afterthought?

What happened to “freedom of choice”?
or do you mean “freedom of choice unless it’s not my choice then no”.
Whatever, walk off the trip. Not sacrificing my hearing to appease you. You’re replaceable, my hearing is not. I hear as well with you yelling through the headset with no intercom as most of the ear dic guys can with nothing in their ears.
Or, alternatively, I will 100% cite your refusal to use the intercom in our inevitable FSAP because you either can’t hear ATC and jack up a clearance or I have to ask for gear 6 times. I see it all the time from the jumpseat. The ear dic crews have a much higher frequency of missed calls, misunderstood calls, and missed crew communication than the headset crews.

People who refuse to use the intercom. That’s what’s wrong. Flying with a captain on a five hour transcon into SFO when they’re landing on the 19’s and he says “I’ve never landed on them in my 27 years here” and when you suggest using the intercom function because it’s such a different situation for you both he says “nah, just talk loud and we’ll get it done.”

Have you ever flown with somebody that doesn’t practice hygiene ?! 🤢 If they couldn’t fix that issue before we pushed - I’d get a new FO.

This thread popping up made me re look at the pictures… agree with, no color on wings, only metallic, and matted would be better than the super chrome silver. Design wise the pointy ends look a little 70s Star Trek style to me, I like our current design, clean but a little more squared off. The color of the uniforms is fine, but in the crew pictures they all look the same (FAs and pilots) the only thing that differentiates them is the hat and tie, in fact the FA epaulettes are more noticeable than the pilots. Maybe thats the company way of making us wear hats so we stop being mistaken for FAs.
