767 Hard Landing IAH ???

Swedish Blender,
I’m not an OE Instructor, I just mention to my F/O’s if they have deferred speedbrakes, to make sure the Capt deploys them slowly after touchdown. I also brief them that I will not slam them out quickly.

No, Without looking it up, it just says that speedbrakes should NOT be Armed prior to touchdown and to manually extend them after touchdown. The first time I manually extended them, due to their deferred status, I yanked them back quickly like the Captain’s did on every landing in the 727. As soon As I pulled them back, the nose rose up abruptly and the Jet seemed to feel lighter on the gear and skittish. After that incident, I extend them smoothly and slowly. Cuts down on the excitement level.😳

I know from the last one of these in EWR, where the hull was written off, the captain’s NTSB statement didn’t resemble in the slightest what the FO (new hire) told me in person before they got coached by safety and ALPA on their statement. This may explain the confusion and improbability of the actual physical result vs. the NTSB statement.
