Yep,i agree.Good airline with the foundation to be GREAT,but no one in charge of fixing anything seems to give a EFFFF about anything but the bottom line. Its sad to see.Maybe they have been doing things the same way for so long until they are afraid of change and new ideas. But in this business enviroment, you have to be willing to change and be adaptive,UA is missing the boat on that when it comes to the things that matter. In addition,i was commuting home the other day,one of the FA's had a huge nose ring and tats all up and down both arms and on their neck. You should have heard the comments pax were making in regards to that.Everything from, youll never see that kind of stuff on Delta, to United will hire anyone, looks like they have lowered their standards.I heard it all.Luckily,i had put on a polo shirt and taken my pilot shirt and ID off,so no one around me knew i was a crew member. Why cant we have DEI,and still have standards when it comes to appearance? Its embarrassing. Its obvious no one is policing this stuff,or no one cares or both.

If I was to make one complaint about the new hires (as a newish hire) its the appearance part. There is an FO in EWR who a solid 400 pounds is, gut hanging out of his shirt, with a literal Super Mario mustache. Guy can't be more than 30-ish years old. Guy consistently looks sloppy and unprofessional as hell. He's not the only one by a long shot, either.
I criticize boomers a lot here but most middle aged captains look the part here, minus a couple fat 60+ dudes I've run into.

Because after 20 plus years of trying that approach, you realize that it’s falling on deaf ears and nothing changes. Newark was a goat rope 20 years ago. And guess what, it’s gonna be a goat rope 20 years from now. You make it sounds like we haven’t tried that before. Now have a drink and relax.

It's not about fixing EWR, it's about fixing work rules. Might be moot at this point with the AIP done, but numerous items like Reserve didn't need tweaking, they needed clean sheet rewriting.

My personal opinion is that these work rules will push the gline lower as there are some really attractive reserve provisions for more senior guys that may just want a month off with pay.

I’ve actually flown with the flight attendant you are describing. In a word, “Wow”! I didn’t realize our appearance standards had changed so dramatically. But, I get what people are saying. It’s definitely NOT a professional look or something United should be promoting. IMHO.
