Agreed, the language is not out just yet, so some people are holding off bidding captain today. Agreed there are people waiting for the contract to be signed so they can get positive space, or functional positive space commuting.
We already saw the first wave with the latest snapshot. The next wave will come when the language comes out. The next wave will be when the contract is signed. But like I said, better get your captain bids in. I predict United will be at 0 infilled captain seats by the end of the year.

Yes, he did. So the subject of the article was being disingenuous and less than fully transparent if interviewed recently or the article has been percolating with the author for over 3 months.

It will take a year for most of these reserve fixes to implement. The underlying impacts to the amount of premium pay being offered to lineholders will also take awhile to see. If reserves are picking up early morning departures for 1 or 2 hours of add pay vs now where the company has to put 100% premium on every trip before 10am it will be a huge loss to us

I will add, really thought we would get some amount of commuter hotels. That would solve a lot, and I think companies cost analysis on the impact is simply wrong. There would be far less commuter clause usage because people would commute out early. Sick drops go down. This new SC pick up option I think would get utilized more, and that’s the real ppu killer. Someone wants to fly extra, just finished a trip, legal for the sc tomorrow, why not grab it for what is essentially a day ppu and then still get some sort of extra trip. Or go home with 10:30 for just hanging out in base another day. Have to imagine SFO and EWR would have really benefitted from some commuter hotels but at least the people running to Guam to have a break from their wife get some more coin.

I’ve never understood company paid commuter hotels. You can usually get a decent hotel for $150/night. Why miss out on a $5-10k+ trip because you aren’t willing to spend $150 on a hotel.
Most pilots I fly with are terrible with finances. This is one example.

lol ok management. “Hurry up and get your upgrade bid in before you miss out on commuting to reserve and buying your own hotels!”

So reserve becomes more desirable, goes more senior in some cases, incentivizes upgrades, and this is a huge loss to us?
