Reserve Conversation
For those moving onto the majors, obviously reserve is a huge area of contention. Can someone spell out the proposed reserve rules - what are the different reserve types, how does the bidding work, short call conversions, etc etc....I've heard a ton about how bad UA's reserve rules have been in the past so does the current AIP "solve" most of this?

-13-14 days off per month.
-LCR 14-18hour callout depending on time of day. (To account for commuting flexibility.)
-Company obligated to offer some number of pure LCR lines- can’t be converted to SC.
-Option to bid for RSV lines with greater company utilization (e.g., early assignment times, short call conversions, etc.) for more pay. (Short call lines pay around high 70s, early show lines low-mid 80s)
-FSB is voluntary pickup only at 3hrs add pay
-Unused short calls pay 1 hour ea.
-Add pay matrix for picking up trips & assignments that show before 10am.
-Some flexibility to drop/pickup/trade RSV days.
There’s a lot more but that’s the brief picture. Final language will be important on a lot of these items.

1) short answer yes - UAL no longer has hot reserve unless you ask for it
2) the rest of the story seems a lot more complex as it looks like this is meant to give a lot of tools/flexibility to give people in base more incentive to pick up trips, more premium options to improve staffing, and more ways for commuters to protect themselves.
Big question is whether the incentives in #2 are enough to make people in base take the work and whether the cost to the company is enough that they offer things. One example - there's now a premium SCR that pays 5:15 that any pilot can pickup. That seems like a profoundly powerful tool to fix schedule holes ... if they're willing to pay it. We shall see.

So true, no FSB.. but they can convert you twice a month for contingency reserve where you are covering a specific flight. If the flight needs you, you go.. if it doesn’t you can be 21-F-1 re-assigned or released with show no go pay of 5ish hrs of LPV.
Still means a trip to the airport.

Until we have the TA (and even then, I have reservations), we can't say for certain what the specific language will say.
The AIP only outlines positives. I don't see negatives in the AIP. That's a red flag for me. I'm optimistic about this deal, but we really need to see all of this in a 600 page document.
