Default Functional positive space commuting

The new commute clause seems like a game changer

For high-frequency routes (esp with ulcc competition) you can get positive space commute for $5-10k/yr. Not perfect but sure makes being a junior lineholder in SFO doable if the 0800 pdx departure is kosher for you 11:30 show

Definitively very commuter / upgrade / reserve friendly so far subject to language

Anyone able to explain the new commuter clause? I looked at the UPA23 website:

-new captains get PS for a year (straightforward)
-if you buy a ticket at least 12 hours before your show time and it's scheduled to arrive 90min prior to show time, you don't need any sort of backup (follow up question - how far out are UA reserve scheduled, and do they have a typical start time?)
-what is a positive space pass (referenced in the slideshow)?
-does the ticket purchase have to be UA, or any airline?

This all has me very interested...

Thanks!

- currently most trips are normally assigned between 1300-1500L the day prior unless they are a last minute add.
- pilots get positive space passes for varying contractual reasons (paid moves, upgrade to CA, etc) and when designated by the company (wx events)
- it looks like you can buy a ticket on any carrier. The caveat is that this only protects you from disciplinary actions (missed trip)… you still lose the pay credit regardless (LH loses whole trip credit, RSV loses 1 day pay credit)

If you’re off first year pay, the way to do it for reserve would be just buying 30-60 days of tickets then just rolling them forward. Would require frequent flights and reasonable fares but doable in many markets
