(Contract First) United Next Growth Plans
There’s close to 16,000 active pilots at United right now — how many total pilots will United need to fully staff their growth plans for United Next? How many net add’l jets on property?
Between new MAXs, NEOs (+XLR variants), and 787 orders, there’s obviously fleet replacements included in the orders, but with all this projected growth and aggressive business maneuvers, it’s beyond comprehension that SK & Co. aren’t also using that big flight deck energy in putting out an industry leading contract.

Someone please correct me or add more details, but *I believe* we’re netting just over 200 narrowbody frames. Someone smarter than me can input how many pilots per NB aircraft we have now and then extrapolate that for staffing. I’ve heard wild things out of TK about 20k-25k pilots on property, who knows. If United executes all the 787 book options, that’ll add even more staffing requirements.
I LOL’d.

considering every day so far this month on the pool display for my base has been -40 or more (I see -68 today) for coverage, I’m guessing we still have a lot more hiring to do. Because this thing with every day being incredibly red is getting old.

I’m a NH and only a partial nerd. If someone sees an error with my math they are welcome to Lmk.
