Enough that if you’re not on property today, you may never see it before it’s retired.

well there’s about 16,000 pilots, if you have to get to say 5,000 you’d have to lose 11,000. Based on the retirements on here it’s probably 17-20 years. Which is about what it is now.

This is all barring the next black swan event, age 67 etc. While I know captain is the goal for everyone, senior widebody reserve is amazing. What’s interesting tho is a lot of people ask about widebody and then they go do it and hate it or have rest issues.

Millennials and Gen X are in the same boat, we’ve just been waiting longer and had a front row seat.

That’s some serious mental gymnastics blaming the new guys for just trying to survive in the world they inherited vs the ones who built it, and are once again trying to rewrite it in their favor at the expense of others.
I’m squarely a GEN X guy. Bottom line, we each do the best we can.

Ideas that pit generations against one another are designed to discredit entire social value systems rather than address any real issues of greed, choices, etc.

The reality is this. Any generation or group of people is going to generally behave in a way that 1.) Maximizes their success and 2.) Ensures their personal and familial security.

Us GenX’rs and Millennials, presented with the same systemic and environmental challenges, would have behaved identically.

To think otherwise is naive and dishonest. What the idea that boomers are somehow uniquely responsible for millennials and x’rs fiscal setbacks really does for my and younger generations is to provide a scapegoat for poor decisions, make it okay to not have accountability for your actions.

Every generations’ challenges, environments, and systems are unique, each generation does and did the best they could. No one should blame anyone, and the real argument about 67 is cognitive decline, not greed.

UALs doesn’t have to worry about a contract to staff United Next when hundreds of airplanes aren’t being delivered anywhere near their published timeline…

Junior pilots are making easily 6 figures after year one and upgrading in one year to boot and seeing record movement. Hope they can "survive" junior guys never having it better in the history of aviation. Try $30/hr with no health insurance and 10-15 year upgrades then maybe we can talk about surviving.

I am against 67 btw.

Guys hired in 2000 had similar rosy outlook.

Are you the same Capt that bragged about how much money you make each paycheck and then left your paystub on your iPad open for half the flight while you showed me how awesome your toys are?

I found it very motivational and arousing. Thank you.

Nope....thanks for playing. But you can afford some toys with your quick upgrade, or even your fat FO pay we negotiated for you. You're welcome

Many LCAL pilots had HUNDREDS of UNEMPLOYED pilots placed above them over night. People who were UNEMPLOYED became line holding pilots overnight at the expense of never furloughed LCAL pilots. LUAL UNEMPLOYED pilots had ALL of their longevity counted while the bottom 1/3 of the CAL list did NOT.

LUAL ALPA actually did a FANTASTIC job. Brucia rightly went into hiding after the award because he should be ashamed of himself.

To say that a pilot who was unemployed had any right to be placed above a pilot that was currently employed was and is the height of arrogance.
If being “employed” was so critical in the SLI, then why did CAL propose placing “unemployed” CAL pilots ahead of UAL pilots that had never been furloughed and were currently employed? Also post 9/11 furloughed CAL pilots hired from 98-01 WERE placed ahead of never furloughed 1996-1998 UAL pilots. So your argument is stupid.
