Disagree that the marriage was in the making over a decade particularly if you’re trying to make the hollow and debunked argument that LUAL parked airplanes and furloughed pilots “for the merger”.
The merger was announced 13 years ago and the SLI came out 10 years ago. Neither company saved the other and neither was right sized. It was a business decision for the investors and our desires or personal interest never entered the equation. The CAL proposal was a moon shot that stood no chance. The UAL proposal, although obviously favoring their members, was more closely aligned to ALPA merger policy. In the end, the arbitrator shuffled the deck and presented the official SLI. It is what it is at this point. I would hope by now that we could let all of that go and focus on our common threat. We have a management team spinning the narrative to the public, promising an industry leading agreement, yet slow rolling having to deliver on that promise. We need to bicker with them and not with each other.

LUAL UNEMPLOYED pilots were given a WINDFALL with the SLI. Never had furloughed pilots been placed ahead of active, never furloughed pilots until the CAL/UAL merger. Many LCAL pilots had HUNDREDS of UNEMPLOYED pilots placed above them over night. People who were UNEMPLOYED became line holding pilots overnight at the expense of never furloughed LCAL pilots. LUAL UNEMPLOYED pilots had ALL of their longevity counted while the bottom 1/3 of the CAL list did NOT.

LUAL ALPA actually did a FANTASTIC job. Brucia rightly went into hiding after the award because he should be ashamed of himself.

To say that a pilot who was unemployed had any right to be placed above a pilot that was currently employed was and is the height of arrogance.

Actually you are incorrect ......

Colgan/Mesaba/Pinnacle merger was the first ALPA merged list that had furloughed pilots merged in with active pilots. Guys get so worked up about this but really do not have all the facts!

LET IT GO MAN!

Hoping we get to 250+ on the next one. At some point they'll have to improve QOL/Compensation, and of course conclude the deal, to close the gap if SK wants United Next.

The question we don’t really know the answer to is “how many open captain vacancies will actually make so much of a difference to the operation that the company will expedite the process?”

Hard to tell, obviously United Next needs lots of captains, but how many are truly needed over the next 6-9 months?

With the increase in retirement age becoming a real possibility, hiring could slow down to account for delayed attrition. A new contract could also encourage more senior pilots to upgrade. Both could mean longer reserve times for junior captains. We’ll see what happens when they cast the net again soon. Personally, considering the risk of extended reserve times, I wouldn’t want to bid a reserve seat unless I knew the rules going forward.

Agreed, as a junior reserve Captain, we're pushed to and beyond the reasonable limit already.
Imho the reserve SL use right now is primarily due to people being overworked with a poor QOL.

Between 3500-5000 depending on base, so top 25-30% of pilot group.

The good news is that if vacancies continue to go unfilled, it won’t get any better when the deliveries start rolling in. So you have that going for you, which is nice.
