UA's seniority based jump-seating sucks, their reserve rules aren't as good, etc.

If IND is a long term priority I'd stay at SWA or go to DL and maybe try for FedEx when they hire again. IND 767 FOs simply don't work on reserve. (50ish hours a year max). Or go to DL and be a 717 captain in DTW.

Long term for me would be like either at Delta A350 DTW or at United 787/777 ORD

United will get a contract…..anyone who makes a decision between UA DL and AA because of a contract DL signed a month ago is extremely short sighted. It’s a great way to end up regretting your choice.

pick the airline who has a base you want and flying you want…..They are all the same.

I'm a 757/767 ORD-based FO at UA. I live in the Chicago suburbs so United works great for me, but it can be pretty rough for commuters. Current contract it's unlimited short call conversions, so you'd want a crash pad or hotel. I'm from Indiana and I commuted out of IND for a while. Lot of UA and AA flights all day to ORD, but still, commuting to not get used for SC is soul sucking at best. I don't get used much at all on this fleet on reserve so that's nice. Will see how it is in the summer. I have yet to get rolled into off days (I'm global reserve) but it does happen. Delta is far better for commuters, and their jumpseat rules are generally better. Honestly, you can't go wrong with either if you want WB flying. I love the flying we do on the 756, but the 777 and 787 also have awesome trips. I'm sure Delta does too. Delta does have the contract already so that's something, but we're hopeful that UA's is coming soon, and it should be in the ballpark of Delta or *hopefully* better. Time will tell. But if you end up at either you wouldn't lose. But definitely go to Delta and then make your choice if you get the CJO at UA.

Thanks for that perspective commuting out of IND. Did you ever try and drive as well?

Do it all the time to visit family. Did it when I was living in IND too to go work in ORD. Super easy drive. But it's outside of the SC range so that's something I wouldn't risk. But you get the SIDA badge at ORD so you can use the employee parking lot so driving isn't too bad. It's like 3 hours and 15 minutes, maybe less or more depending on traffic to ORD.

UA does give $35 a month toward parking, so you could use that for the $30 a month IND parking pass, but you would forfeit the SIDA badge ability. Or you could just pay the IND pass out of pocket.

UA will get a contract. However the question is, will they get everything DL got or will they fall short? And when will they get it? DL was already out ahead and now they're even further.

and this poster has 37 years left…..not 7.

Relax…..

you don’t make a 37 year decision based on a contract signed a month ago

if we sign a new contract and it is ****….then absolutely make the decision based on the contract.

Delta new hires are currently getting DTW 350 out of training. Not sure if that will continue.

You can only make decisions based on what’s in writing at the time it’s time to decide. Ignoring what you know for what you hope is even more short sighted.

Dude has a Class date with Delta. Why on earth should he pass on what’s known to be good about to gamble on a bunch of conjecture about UALs potential next pilot contract? Too many unknowns. As it stands now from what was published on the negotiations updates DAL WB reserve rules blow UALs out of the water and he lives too far away to sit UAL short call at home… if he could sit short call at home, vs a 4.5hr drive to DAL to fly every time, it would probably be worth it to go UAL, but not out of IND now with the reserve rules that UAL has. I hope UAL beats every part of DALs contract, but I wouldn’t bet a career choice that they’d even match it in areas I found important. If they do the OP can always apply in the future after getting the full picture from both contracts.

What will really matter between these two between now and 2060 is unknown.

Both great options.
