Is there something in the FOM about forbidding alcohol in your possession while at work? I thought I read something like that, but might be thinking back to an old company's policy. Common sense would suggest the spirit of that wording is aimed at some idiot with a flask, not this sort of situation, but as a newer guy just wanted to ask.

When he mentioned it the CA warned him that he was only allowed to bring back one, and if he got caught at Customs he'd lose his Global Entry. So I bought the extra one off him. Full crews arriving into SFO lately have been getting searched. I have no idea what the rules are regarding wine. I'd start looking around the ICE website and if you don't find anything try a PDR. And if you find a solid answer... post it here!
info is available at the cpb.gov website. No special rules for crew. You fall under general rules of any US citizen returning to the US from abroad. Some air lines may have more stringent restrictions so check with your union.

In general - and this is from cpb.gov, tsa.gov and 49 CFR 175.10:

Up to 5 liters (1.3 gallons) of alcohol allowed per person. This is defined as between 48-140 proof. They must remain in unopened and original containers.

No limit on alcoholic beverages < 24%. This pertains to checked bags. As an operating crew you are subject to these same rules even though you do not check your bags.

A gotcha is you might run afoul of STATE liquor import rules. So if you are bringing in a case or two of wine, you may want to check out your states' import rules.

Actually there are different requirements for Aircrew. We used to have to fill out this form at several cities on arrival, the "Crew declaration" form 5129.
https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/fi...orm%205129.pdf

It lists the following

This includes:
  • one open liter of alcoholic beverage and 300 cigarettes, or 50 cigars, or 2 kilograms of smoking tobacco, or a proportionate amount of each;
  • merchandise not exceeding $200 in value, which may include gifts the crew member has purchased for persons in the United States, free of duty.
Also on their website at https://www.cbp.gov/travel/clearing-...ent-exemptions

But yes in general the rule is 1 liter of Alcohol free from duty, no limits on how much you bring in but you are supposed to pay duty on the rest, if the officer is so inclined to charge you. This is listed on their website for the general population. https://help.cbp.gov/s/sidebar-top-5...language=en_US
