Enough of this wide brush poo pooing on various seniority blocks. I'm a 3XXXXX. I've been here almost 10 years. This is my SECOND job with SK as boss. I've been through Ch. 11. I've received furlough letters. I've been a LEC committee chair here. I'm a 3rd generation UAL Capt. Enough with the bashing of the "younger" guys. Our eyes are wide open and we're leading the next generation forward.

Yeah, but you still obviously need to pay your dues.

Due solely to UPA work rules, or at least it feels like it I’m sure.

I don’t worry about how “junior pilots” will vote as they have the most to lose in capitulating on work rules. Many “new hires” came from airlines with far better reserve rules and they know this negotiation is a once in a career opportunity to fix that.

I couldn’t imagine working another 20+ years with draconian and punitive reserve rules. We HAVE to fix it this time.

Speaking of targets…he’s got a target on his arm and has had one on his back for awhile. Very brave. Yes he lead the charge during Tumi 1.

What a Debbie Downer. Didn’t this guy get the memo? “200 wide bodies, all growth. 20k pilots on the list by 2025. Industry leading contract. Just waiting for everyone else to ink theirs so Kirby knows how much to beat them by. Kicking SWA out of DEN. Kicking AA out of ORD. Taking over the trans-Atlantic flying out of BOS when the XLR shows up.”

These are real comments I’ve read here by a couple of UAL pilots.

Exactly! We go nowhere without that education.

I actually agreed with much of what he said in this current video. His first video last Summer where he anointed himself an expert on all things UAL and even seemingly filmed himself from a briefing room while showing his lack of UAL knowledge was a bit off putting (he actually started referring to our fixed based training phase normally referred to as FTD-A as “sorties”). I think the problem most people have with him is his independent message not at all coordinated with our MEC communications group and how that splits our pilot group and disrupts singular focus, and a unified message. He should run for LEV rep and move this message through normal channels. When we start second guessing ourselves at this point in our process, we lose. We are driving the ball forward. We are around the 30 yard line and in a time out. My worry is we will get the ball down to the 1 yard line and sit there for 6 months running into the defensive line over something very small. We aren’t there yet but taking a quick timeout and huddling (last week and weekend) hopefully results in good play calling this week and next. I fear if the company doesn’t make a move in our direction before the end of the month we will have a really lousy Summer. Morale is at a decades low in the cockpit right now and the window is beginning to close on course correction. This is now a major distraction that is affecting safe operations.

This was my main takeaway. Regardless of intentions, this is exactly the type of thing that the MEC is asking us not to do. The MEC has a hard enough time convincing the company that they represent us and our collective opinion.

Do you have evidence of a federal court judge prohibiting such language? Is there legal precedent in our specific case or something similar? Has United taken the pilot group and ALPA to court, or have UAL lawyers threatened ALPA?
Yes to every one of those questions. It was ugly and the pilots got bent over a barrel because of it.

The pilots were slapped with a TRO and had to pay huge fines back to the company as well as monetarily guarantee the operation.
