How bad is 320 flying, really?

can we stop with the “bus is doing regional flying” crap?
the Bus is doing mainline flying to cities that were very much mainline until the 2000’s. think 737-200 and 727 flying. No one was complaining about us flying these routes back then.
and by the way the guppy pays the same the first year and operates under the same UPA as the Bus and goes to all those same cities too. it even does 3 and 4 leg days and more ANF flying then the Bus does. So what’s the difference between the two for a first year pilot? Not much of anything.

This a million times over. I talk with a few of my mentors (long retired) and they say these city pairs were served by 727/737 and were lost in BK/scope loss. They are happy that we are serving them again

The 737 does plenty of IAH-SAT, LAX-PHX turns also, though it can also do BOS LAX in the winter with an alternate.
Hopefully the “this is like an RJ” stigma will die fast. There’s nothing wrong with “regional” flying when it’s done in mainline airplanes by mainline crews, though some prefer longer flights as a matter of preference.
Also since this hasn't come up yet in this thread, in the 320 can cut your lighter choice beef on a tray table.

The bus is also severely understaffed on the coasts. Unless your seniority is better than 50% you’re gonna be doing a 87-90 hour line, and you won’t be able to trade or drop anything.
ANF depends on your base. SFO bus does more redeyes than every other airbus base combined.
I love the airbus but when I see my friends on the 737 with their 30 hour CUN layovers I feel quite envious!

I'm sub 20% in base Bus FO and I personally wouldn't go to the right seat of the 73 even though I'm 15%. I get what I want, but I also don't chase top tier 1 day trips. 30hr CUN layovers are cool, but I rather chase better quality trips in terms of sit times, report/release, etc. I'd rather have 30hr in CUN with my family than a crew (my opinion of course). So YMMV. Granted the trip pool in IAH on the 73 is a monster.

Hello, starting in a few weeks. I've had some people tell me that the 320 is the regional jet of the company. I've had others tell me they rarely fly more than 2 legs a day. What is the general consensus? I know the answer generally comes down to seniority, but any other insight? Thanks.
The flying on the A320 isn't as bad as everyone makes it just like the 737 cockpit isn't as bad as everyone makes it. just kidding

320 flying is not bad. It’s the fact that they are not prioritizing staffing on the right seat like they are the 737 causing the line credits to be super high, cutting into days off IMO.
Cant go wrong with either fleet tho.

I liked my layovers at the regional better than most of ours, anyways.
