Contracts come and go. We might get Delta + or maybe everyone will be subject to concessionary contracts in 2 years when Michael Burry's doomsday comes. I don't have to explain what a crapshoot this industry is on this board. But the fact is that you can't get those numbers back once they're gone.

So what’s the cutoff for giving up seniority numbers, vs living in base, vs age…..it’s all some big formula we have to figure out at a personal level.
A National ALPA contract and seniority list would be one interesting experiment. (Could you imaging the fighting between the for/against crowd?)

Therein lies the worst part of this industry. Doctors (or any number of other professions) get experience and switch jobs/locations because they get paid more. We get years of experience and get to start over at the bottom.

You’re always most likely to get the contract that you want by going to the carrier that has it. I’ve got a bunch of buddies at Delta. They’re all happy there and a bunch bid Captain ASAP and got it at the 7-8 month mark. There’s not the level of dread that you get talking to UAL pilots about upgrading while junior. They’ve got excellent work rules at Delta which really increase their earnings potential and quality of life.

If I was going to be a commuter to both airlines, had less than 5 years on property and more than 10 years to go until I retired, I’d be gone to Delta based on the last NC update. You can make up for any lost wages by taking the upgrade at DAL at 400hrs and being junior in the left seat of a NB or right seat of a WB doesn’t suck nearly as much with 18hr long call no rolled days off and single flight requirements for commuting.

For a better quality of life? Especially as a commuter… absolutely… what’s the point of going to work miserable?
