Default First and Second Year pay WB FO

Hi there,
Could not find the answer to this question in archives, so here it goes.
What would be the realistic take-home pay in year 1 and 2 on the wide-body FO 777 or 787 based in EWR or SFO?

Trying to make up my mind on United vs UPS.
Thanks a lot
Dom

Plan for reserve monthly guarantee of 73 hours. Anything above that is gravy.

first year is $91/hour
second year is $174

what those numbers will be with a new contract? Similar to Delta’s most likely.

I think all major airlines pay the same for year 1 FO regardless of aircraft. J3 Cub or A380 ... all the same rate.

For your stated goal of QOL ... United will probably work better over a 10-12 year time horizon. You can sit reserve in a number of pleasant locations and won't fly much. UPS has limited base options - do you like Kentucky?

UPS does have the MAJOR advantage of a defined benefit pension but you'd need to look into the vesting details.

Slight correction. 2nd year WBFO is 182.86.

UAL contract process may drag on for a while and risks creating an unhappy pilot group. It may resolve itself soon but I’m getting less optimistic about it. UPS, for its faults finds a good friend of mine with astonishing blocks of time off when things are conflicted with some system know how. Plus pension. It’s hard to argue against that.

2nd this ^^. While my friends were hired many years ago, their careers at UPS have resulted in better QoL & overall pay & benefits, particularly as commuters.

Thank you all for your replies.
Do you expect to fly around your monthly guarantee at UA?
I know several guys at the UPS who fly way above the minimum guaranteed earning proportionally more.
Isn't that the case at United at those bases?
Yes, UPS sounds a bit more appealing at this stage given its excellent health and retirement packages.
I do not mind living in KY or Indiana across the state border.

Thanks
Dom

UPS, hands down. Don't even give it a second thought.

Access to extra time is dependent on seniority. There may well be people playing that game on a widebody at United ... you will not have the seniority to do that within 10 years.
Dunno about UPS.

Daytime freight is a beautiful thing, but make sure you can take the all night flying and sitting through a sort until you’re senior enough to bid daytime flying. That all night stuff will make you feel old really fast. Passenger flying is highly overrated, but not flying all night makes it worth it to me. Now if I could take my current seniority to UPS, I’d be gone tomorrow.

Widebody reserve at UA usually won’t break guarantee, so just plan on 73 hrs or what ever the next contract says.
